ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again elevated Indonesia’s reputation on the international stage through a distinguished achievement. This time, the IRIS ITS robotics team secured Third Place in the Middle Size League (MSL) category at the RoboCup 2026 competition, held in Songdo City, South Korea, over a seven-day period concluding on Monday, July 6.
IRIS ITS Team Leader Dwi Ananda Akbar explained that RoboCup 2026 is a prestigious international robotics competition that brings together top-tier teams from various countries. The competition features multiple categories, including the Middle Size League, in which the IRIS Team emerged victorious. “This league tests the capabilities of medium-sized wheeled robots in playing autonomous football,” stated the student, commonly known as Nanda.

Nanda further conveyed that his team had devised strategic approaches for the competition, which is open not only to university students but to participants from all backgrounds. In facing teams from the Netherlands, France, and Japan, the IRIS Team implemented a defensive strategy while seeking goal-scoring opportunities in both the first and second halves. “This strategy was developed through observations conducted both in the previous year and during the qualification rounds,” he elaborated.
Moreover, Nanda revealed that the team had undertaken extensive preparations over several months for this competition. These demanding preparations encompassed various research phases, testing, and continuous system refinements to the robots. The alumnus of SMA Negeri 1 Tuban expressed his deep gratitude to all team members for their relentless efforts throughout the competition.

The student from the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering asserted that this achievement serves as tangible evidence of the quality of research and innovation produced by ITS students. This accomplishment, realized by a team of 24 members under the guidance of three faculty advisors, is expected to further enhance Indonesia’s international standing, particularly in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.
This commendable achievement aligns with ITS’s commitment to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, it supports SDG Goal 9 concerning Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Nanda also extended his appreciation to all parties who have supported the team in attaining this milestone. “We express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to bringing the names of ITS and Indonesia to the world stage,” he concluded with profound appreciation.
