DTIS Guest Lecture Brings University of Warwick Expert to Discuss Intelligent and Resilient Infrastructure

The Civil Infrastructure Engineering Department (DTIS), Faculty of Vocations, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), once again hosted an international academic event through the DTIS Guest Lecture, held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Room 103, ITS Manyar Campus. The event featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irwanda Laory from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Warwick, United Kingdom, who delivered a lecture entitled “Structural Health Monitoring for Resilient and Intelligent Civil Infrastructure.”

The event was attended by the Head of the Applied Bachelor Program in Civil Engineering, Dr. Eng. Yuyun Tajunnisa, S.T., M.T., several DTIS faculty members, and approximately 200 students who enthusiastically participated in the session. The strong attendance from students across different academic years reflected a growing interest in technological advancements and innovation in the field of civil infrastructure engineering.

During his presentation, Dr. Irwanda Laory discussed the latest developments in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technology, which integrates sensors, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and real-time data analytics to continuously monitor the condition of infrastructure systems. These technologies enable early detection of structural damage and performance degradation, thereby enhancing safety, extending service life, and optimizing maintenance costs.

Moderated by Moh. Safi’i Mansur, S.ST., M.T., the lecture was highly interactive and engaging. Students actively participated in the discussion by raising questions regarding the implementation of SHM in high-rise buildings, bridges, and transportation infrastructure. The discussion provided valuable insights into both the challenges and opportunities of applying smart infrastructure concepts to support more resilient and sustainable development in the future.

Beyond expanding academic knowledge, the event also introduced students to the international research ecosystem, opportunities for further study, and potential collaborations with leading universities worldwide. This aligns with DTIS’s commitment to fostering an academic environment that is responsive to global developments in science and technology.

Through the organization of the DTIS Guest Lecture, the Civil Infrastructure Engineering Department of the ITS Faculty of Vocations continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality academic activities that bridge education with international research advancements and professional practice. It is hoped that this event will inspire students to further develop their competencies and contribute to the realization of smarter, safer, and more sustainable infrastructure in Indonesia.
