The opening of the Global Summer Course Initiatives (GSCI) 2026 was held in a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere, marking a significant step in strengthening international academic partnerships. This program is a joint initiative between Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember through its Vocational Faculty and Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, with support from LPDP under the Diktisaintek Berdampak program.
In his remarks, Tatas, PhD expressed his sincere appreciation to the UM delegation for their presence at ITS. He noted that this year marks the second implementation of GSCI, following the successful program in 2025 when ITS hosted representatives from UM, including Dr. Suhana. He also conveyed his hope that all UM students would fully enjoy and benefit from their experience during the GSCI program in Indonesia. In addition, he extended his gratitude to all departments within the Vocational Faculty for their support and participation in the opening ceremony.
The next speech was delivered by Dr. Farahain Binti Mohd Jais, who shared the initial experiences of UM students. With a light-hearted tone, she mentioned that the students had begun their GSCI journey by visiting Tugu Pahlawan, and jokingly added that they also went to a shopping mall “to help boost Indonesia’s economy,” which was warmly received with laughter from the audience.
The event was further enlivened by a cultural performance from students of the Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering (DTIS), presenting the traditional Ciek Duo Tigo dance, showcasing Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage on an international मंच.
The program continued with the official opening remarks by Dr. Ir. Bambang Sampurno, M.T.. Before formally opening the event, he expressed his gratitude for the realization of the GSCI program, which had been envisioned and planned several years ago and has now grown into a meaningful platform for global collaboration.
As the closing segment, a token of appreciation exchange ceremony was held between the two institutions as a symbol of strong partnership and friendship. The souvenirs were presented by Dr. Bambang to Dr. Farahain, and reciprocally from UM to ITS, followed by a group photo session with all participants.
Carrying the spirit of “together we advance humanity,” GSCI 2026 stands as a concrete commitment to fostering inclusive, world-class education with meaningful global impact.
