The Coaching Clinic Visiting Top Professor for Lecturers 2026 with the theme “AI & Smart Technology for Sustainable Infrastructure” was successfully held on April 13, 2026, at Room 102, Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The event featured an international speaker, Prof. Jieh-Haur Chen, Ph.D., F.IET, an academic and researcher from National Central University (NCU), Taiwan.

This activity was specifically designed for lecturers as part of efforts to enhance academic capacity and strengthen competencies in emerging technologies, particularly the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and smart technology in sustainable infrastructure development. In his presentation, Prof. Chen elaborated on various contemporary concepts and practices related to the integration of AI throughout the infrastructure lifecycle, from planning and design to construction, operation, and maintenance. He also highlighted how data-driven technologies can improve efficiency, accuracy, and support more adaptive and sustainable decision-making processes.

During the coaching clinic session, lecturers not only received theoretical insights but also actively engaged in in-depth academic discussions. Several participants presented their research topics, proposals, and teaching experiences related to infrastructure technology. Prof. Chen provided constructive feedback, including strategies for developing AI-based research, opportunities for international publications, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning in higher education.

This activity also served as a strategic platform to strengthen international collaboration between ITS and NCU. The discussions opened opportunities for future partnerships in the form of joint research, lecturer exchanges, and the development of smart technology-based curricula. This aligns with ongoing efforts to internationalize higher education and enhance institutional global competitiveness.

The enthusiasm of the lecturers was evident through their active participation throughout the session. The topic was considered highly relevant to current developments, particularly in addressing the increasingly complex and dynamic challenges of infrastructure development.

Through this activity, it is expected that lecturers will be able to integrate AI and smart technology concepts into the three pillars of higher education (tridharma), including teaching, research, and community service. Overall, this program made a significant contribution to improving academic quality and broadening the global perspectives of lecturers at ITS.
