The Global Learning Series DTIS #3 in 2026 was conducted in an engaging and dynamic academic atmosphere at Room Vokasi 103, Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering, Faculty of Vocational Studies, ITS Manyar Campus, Jl. Raya Menur 127, Surabaya. The event was attended by approximately 150 students who showed great enthusiasm throughout the program. The session began with the singing of Indonesia Raya, followed by the ITS Hymn, creating a formal yet inspiring ambiance that fostered a strong sense of unity among participants. The moment was further commemorated with a group photo session involving the speaker, lecturers, and all participants.
The event continued with an opening remark by Mr. Deris Faiza, Head of the TRKBA Study Program. In his speech, he expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Farahain Binti Mohd Jais from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, for her willingness to share valuable knowledge and insights in the field of wastewater treatment. He also highlighted the importance of mastering Waste Water Treatment Engineering as a crucial component in addressing increasingly complex environmental challenges.
In the main session, Dr. Farahain delivered a presentation titled “Waste Water Treatment Engineering: Preliminary Design.” She explained the significance of wastewater treatment in maintaining environmental sustainability and public health. The presentation covered fundamental principles of preliminary design, identification of wastewater characteristics, and approaches to selecting appropriate and sustainable treatment technologies.
Participants demonstrated high enthusiasm, particularly during the discussion and question-and-answer session. Various insightful questions were raised, ranging from technical aspects to real-world implementation challenges. The discussion was interactive and informative, with the speaker providing clear and practical explanations that enriched participants’ understanding.
To conclude the session, an interactive quiz added a lively and enjoyable element to the event. Participants who answered correctly were awarded attractive prizes directly from the speaker. Overall, the activity not only served as a platform for knowledge sharing but also strengthened academic collaboration and inspired students to further explore innovations in wastewater treatment engineering.
