ITS Chancellor Prof Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng also congratulated the six newly inaugurated ITS professors in his remarks

ITS Campus, ITS News – Continuing to increase the number of professors or professors, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again confirmed six new professors from various fields of science. Officially joining the ITS Professors Council, the six professors were inaugurated directly in the Auditorium of the ITS Research Center Building, Wednesday (10/5).

Starting the inauguration procession, Prof. Dr. Ali Masduqi ST MT, inaugurated as the 152nd ITS professor, opened with his scientific oration entitled Implementation of Smart Water Supply Systems to Improve Excellent Drinking Water Services. In the form of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), the Department of Environmental Engineering lecturer revealed that this intelligent system monitors and reports the quality of raw water to water that has been distributed to customers in real-time. “So that whenever there is a quality abnormality, the system can make decisions directly,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Bambang Widjanarko Otok SSi MSi from the Statistics Department inaugurated as the 153rd ITS professor, explained his scientific oration entitled Multivariate Analysis to Overcome Unobservable Heterogeneity. The multivariate analysis developed by the Surabaya-born lecturer is a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique that is capable of modeling data with unobserved heterogeneity with valid results. “The results analyzed can be generalized at the aggregate data level,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Ir Eddy Setiadi Soedjono, DiplSE MSc Ph.D. as the 154th professor of ITS, explained his scientific oration with the title Acceleration of Fulfillment of Settlement Wastewater Management in Indonesia. Through this topic, the lecturer with the nickname Edot focuses on efforts to accelerate the development of healthy latrines for better sanitation.

Through his research, the lecturer, who is also from the Department of Environmental Engineering, also proposes recycling phosphorus produced from household fecal waste. “I see a high potential for phosphorus reserves to be extended,” he said.

Inaugurated as the 155th professor of ITS, Prof. Dr. Eng Chastine Fatichah SKom MKom gave an oration on Generative AI: Techniques, Roles, and Challenges. This Informatics Engineering Department lecturer developed deep learning techniques for various purposes as generative AI in artificial intelligence.

Among them are producing disease severity prediction models with medical images to recover old or damaged photos due to loss of pixels more stably and accurately. “This technique can also help medical reporting with a low error rate,” he said.

Next, Prof. Dra Ratna Ediati MS Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry, who was inaugurated as the 156th professor of ITS, explained his scientific oration on the topic of the Role of Porous Materials Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOF) in Supporting Environmental Conservation. This lecturer, born in Probolinggo, initiated MOF as an environmentally friendly adsorbent. By modifying MOF through chitosan and magnetic synthesis using the green synthesis method, this bespectacled woman created MOF with high adsorption capacity. “Adsorbents to adsorb these pollutants can be used repeatedly,” he explained.

The last scientific oration was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir Sumarno Mengyang, who was inaugurated as the 157th professor of ITS with the topic of Environmentally Friendly Technology-Based Polymer Processing. This lecturer from the Chemical Engineering Department initiated environmentally friendly polymers using sonication, high-shear mixing, and hydrothermal methods. The lecturer, born in Lumajang, revealed that this polymer could be made from leftover natural products from the agricultural, plantation, forestry, fishery, and livestock sectors.

Chairman of the ITS Professors Council, Prof. Dr. Ir Imam Robandi MT, while delivering remarks at the inauguration of the six new ITS professors

In his remarks, the Chairperson of the ITS Professors Council, Prof Dr. Ir Imam Robandi MT, congratulated the six confirmed professors. It is hoped that joining these six new professors in the ITS Professor Council will bring more blessings and progress to ITS.

The same thing was conveyed by the Chancellor of ITS, Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng, in the speech of the procession. He hopes that the number of professors at ITS will continue to grow and be more productive in producing scientific publications. “In early 2022, even though the number of professors at ITS is relatively small compared to other campuses, the productivity produced by these ITS professors is quite high and proud,” he concluded proudly.
