ITS Campus, ITS News – Contributing to building the country, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has again made an achievement by winning an award as the Higher Education with the Most Engineer Professional Study Program (PSPPI) Graduates in 2023. The award was given by the Indonesian Engineer Association (PII) was held at the East Java PII Regional Conference, last Saturday (6/5).

This award is to appreciate ITS for its success in graduating 987 alumni and students from PSPPI as of May 2023. The graduation rate is the highest of all universities in Indonesia.

PII itself is a professional engineer organization that provides engineer certification programs through PSPPI. This program is open to graduates with a bachelor of engineering or applied engineering, or a bachelor of science equivalent to a bachelor of engineering through an equivalent program with at least three years of work experience in engineering practice.

By law and as written in the law, this certification is required for a bachelor’s degree to officially practice and work as an engineer in Indonesia. Therefore, PSPPI graduates are recognized throughout Indonesia as qualified engineer graduates.

The Dean of the Interdisciplinary School of Management and Technology (SIMT) ITS Prof. Ir I Nyoman Pujawan MEng PhD CSCP explained, engineering is a very important profession in the country’s development. The PSPPI graduates under the auspices of SIMT are expected to play a good role in this development based on ethics and a code of ethics.

According to him, the role of engineers is inseparable from the country’s development because various innovations and technologies that are used daily involve research and development involving engineers. “In every progress there are engineers who play a role, from designing, building, installing, maintaining, to operating the tool,” said Nyoman.

Not only that, the Head of the PSPPI ITS Study Program (Kaprodi) Ir Ridho Bayuaji ST MT PhD IPM ASEAN Eng also said that the effort to win this award is a reflection of the ITS motto Advancing Humanity.

This PSPPI certification ensures that its graduates can work in the engineering field properly in order to develop the country. “ITS implements PSPPI as a form of participating in producing superior engineers to participate in developing an advanced Indonesia,” said Ridho.

It is undeniable that PSPPI certification is very beneficial for the development of the country as a whole. Even so, according to Ridho, the number of PSPPI graduates throughout Indonesia is still insufficient to support engineering development in society. Until now, the number of PSPPI graduates is still less than 1 percent or around 1.45 million people of all engineering and applied engineering graduates in Indonesia.

Therefore, Ridho revealed, ITS will take several initiatives to further improve PSPPI graduates. One of these initiatives is to implement the PSPPI advanced undergraduate program, or by holding PSPPI lectures in the second semester with a package model with the undergraduate program so that the cost of Education Development Contributions (SPP) does not become too expensive.

With this initiative, Nyoman continued with the hope that ITS will increasingly be recognized as a high-reputation PSPPI organizer, so that more and more students are interested in taking this professional certification program. “Thus, ITS will increasingly contribute in preparing competent human resources to support development,” he concluded.
