ITS Campus, ITS News — in its efforts to produce international-quality graduates, the Department of Mechanical Engineering Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to fulfill various research collaborations with internationally renowned universities as well as encouraging students to join international programs. It was delivered through an open talk titled The International Program of Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS held on Friday, (26/6).

Latifah Nurahmi Ph.D., head of engineering systems and control laboratory Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS, conveys that the Department Of Mechanical Engineering has cooperation with various universities, especially in academic research for a long time. “Academic research cannot develop alone, we need to cooperate with other institutions, nationally, and internationally,” said the lecturer who is also an alumnus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Latifah, her familiar greeting, adds that there are three main objectives in the research cooperation, namely to share expertise, tools, and also funds. Research on international cooperation also has various forms, which can be a professor’s visit, exchange of students, co-guidance, training, and others.

Furthermore, Latifah explained the research, especially the development of robots that have been done by the Department of Mechanical Engineering with foreign universities. Among them is robot development research to overcome disasters along with the Ecole Centrale de Nantes France. “We know that Indonesia is in a high disaster-prone area, in this case, we also took the Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (PENS) to make a prototype of the robot,” she said.

There is cooperation for The ASEAN European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) 2019 project along with The University of Innsbruck Austria. In terms of the development of home robot builders, Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS also hosted the University of Salford Manchester. Which, as we know today, has many homes built with automation mechanisms.

Not only that, but the Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS also collaborated with Columbia University in robotic research for the rehabilitation and development of industrial robots with Purdue University. “And most recently, we are exploring the possibilities of cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the future, we will continue to try to throw the hook even further,” obviously women who attended a graduate school at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes France.

Ghazy Dicky is a student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering department who shares his international experience.

The open talk that is implemented online also brings a resource with a variety of international experiences and is a student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering itself. One of them is Ghazy Dicky, an undergraduate student who has participated in the exchange of students to Turkey and China.

The student who is familiarly called Ghazy says that the experience of the international exchange is important. In this globalization era, competition not only with fellow citizens but also between countries. “In the future, inter-country labor exchange will be very easy, so soft skills and the ability to cooperate with the global community is more points,” he said.

By joining international programs, students can interact, discuss, and socialize with many people from different parts of the world. So, they will know the current issues and problems from various perspectives. Then together exchange knowledge to find the best solution.

“That way we will be more accustomed to the various global cultures, which then make us develop into a better, self-reliant, and understanding individual, all of which are strongly supported by the Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS,” said Ghazy.(meg/lut/rev)
