In celebration of National Children’s Day, the Department of Computer Engineering at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) organized a community service activity titled “Introduction to Robotics for Early Childhood.” This event was a collaborative initiative between the robotics team of the Department of Computer Engineering and the Dharma Wanita of FTEIC ITS, aiming to foster children’s interest in science and technology from an early age.
Held at the Dharma Wanita Building of ITS, the event was specially designed with an educational yet fun approach. Children from TK Sepuluh Nopember were invited to interact directly with various types of robots, including robot dogs, humanoid robots, drones, and line tracers. They were introduced to basic robotics components, the simple working principles of robots, and even had the opportunity to operate the robots themselves in interactive sessions.
Through a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach, this activity marked an important moment for ITS to contribute to shaping a generation that is adaptive to technological advancements. Not only as part of National Children’s Day celebration, the event also served as a stepping stone for children to naturally and positively understand and enjoy the world of technology.
The Dean of FTEIC ITS, Prof. Dr. Diana Purwitasari, S.Kom., M.Sc., also expressed her appreciation for this initiative. According to her, integrating technology and literacy from an early age can strengthen children’s foundation in facing future challenges. “Through the integration of technology and robotics along with the reinforcement of literacy, we hope to create a learning environment that is both engaging and relevant for children,” said Diana.
With the spirit of celebrating National Children’s Day, the Department of Computer Engineering at ITS hopes that similar activities can continue to be held sustainably and reach more children at various levels. Going forward, the department is committed to playing an active role in celebrating Children’s Day through educational contributions based on technology.
