Surabaya, October 9, 2025 – The Department of Computer Engineering at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held a Mental Health Seminar titled “Building Student Resilience to Face Campus Life” on Thursday (October 9), at the Multifunction Room, Tower 2, 11th Floor.
This seminar was mandatory for students of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts as part of the department’s efforts to support students’ psychological well-being amidst their demanding academic routines.

The event featured Dr. Zain Budi Syulthoni, Sp.KJ, a psychiatrist with extensive experience in adolescent and student mental health issues. In his presentation, Dr. Zain invited participants to understand the importance of resilience — the ability to recover from stress and interpret life’s challenges in a healthier way.

Through a scientific and reflective approach, Dr. Zain presented findings from the University of Paris, revealing that students across various disciplines often experience stress and anxiety due to academic pressure, social expectations, and personal demands. He emphasized the need for students to recognize negative thoughts and reframe their perspectives toward difficulties.

Participants were also guided through the DASS-21 test (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale), which helped them reflect on their emotional conditions and served as an initial step toward maintaining mental health within the academic environment.

At the end of the session, Dr. Zain delivered a thought-provoking message encouraging students to view life’s challenges more positively:

“Suffering is 10% what actually happens and 90% how we interpret it.”

Through this activity, the Department of Computer Engineering at ITS hopes that students will develop a resilient mindset in facing the dynamics of campus life. This seminar reflects ITS’s commitment to creating an environment that excels not only academically but also cares deeply about the mental health and well-being of its students.
