Surabaya, April 16, 2025 – Computer Engineering students at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) had the opportunity to gain fresh insights into the latest developments in the world of modern databases through a guest lecture titled “Modern Data Platform.” The event featured Hananto Wicaksono, S.T., M.B.A., a HeatWave Data Architect at Oracle, who presented the evolution of modern data platforms and the application of cutting-edge technologies such as Generative AI.
In his presentation, Hananto explained the paradigm shift from conventional database systems to modern architectures that integrate OLTP (Online Transaction Processing), OLAP (Online Analytical Processing), and data lake (Lakehouse) models.
The lecture also explored how HeatWave AutoML simplifies the implementation of machine learning directly within the MySQL database, eliminating the need for separate infrastructure. Features like automated hyperparameter tuning, model explainability, and real-time inference enable companies to leverage predictive analytics without technical integration hurdles.
As a closing remark, Hananto emphasized the importance of modernizing data platforms to address the global data explosion, which is projected to reach 180 zettabytes by 2025. Through HeatWave, Oracle offers an all-in-one solution for OLTP, OLAP, predictive analytics, and generative AI. These technologies not only improve performance efficiency but also enhance data security and ensure regulatory compliance for enterprises.
This guest lecture is expected to inspire students to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field of data engineering and encourage them to prepare for the rapidly advancing era of big data and artificial intelligence.
