As a future programmer, it is important for Informatics students to understand three important elements in designing a program or application for someone: humans, computers, and the interaction between the human and the computer. In the event held on May 12th 2022, Department of Informatics ITS invited Dr. Wafi Bedewi as a Guest Lecture to explain one of the elements in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Human. Dr. Wafi Bedewi is an assistant professor at King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. This event is moderated by Dr. Baskoro Adi P., S.Kom., M.Kom. who is a lecturer at the Department of Informatics ITS. Due to limitation for COVID-19, this event was held hybrid, the speaker presented online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application while the participants were present either online or in a class. At least, 25 participants joined online and around 40 participants did it in the University. The Guest Lecture event is part of the Independent Campus Competition Program (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka, PK-KM).

The topic of this guest lecture is part of the Principle of Human Computer Interaction course taught at the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, King Abdulaziz University. Dr. Wafi Bedewi said, as an element of Human Computer Interaction, humans perceive the world around them, store and process information, solve problems, and can physically manipulate objects. Various aspects of humans need to be understood because basically programs or applications are designed for humans.

In general, Dr. Wafi Bedewi discusses about (1) how humans receive and send information (information input/output channel), (2) how humans store information their memories, (3) how emotions influence human capabilities, and (4) how humans have abilities and limitations in their interaction with computers. These things affect the user experience in running a program or application. Understanding individual differences such as gender, physical and intellectual abilities, effect of stress, and age could minimize the program design decision to exclude section of population. The implication is that programmers are expected to create an interface design of a program or application that accommodates the user needs so that could improve the user experience.

The QnA session was conducted after the speaker explained the entire presentation. In this session participants enthusiastically interacted by asking a few questions. At the end, Dr. Baskoro Adi P., S.Kom., M.Kom. conducted the summary of this guest lecture and expressed his gratitude to Dr. Wafi Bedewi.
