ITS Campus, ITS News — In a strategic move to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and the knowledge-based economy in Indonesia, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) officially conducted a soft launching of the New Sains Techno Park (STP) ITS 2027. The event, held at the ITS Creative Center A Building on Monday afternoon, April 13, 2026, aims to integrate the existing STP facilities at ITS as part of the institution’s transformation toward an entrepreneurial university. The ceremony was attended directly by the Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia.

STP is a government-initiated project that is still in the development process in Indonesia and remains far from the target of 100 STPs. Nevertheless, STP ITS is one of five top-tier national STPs that are members of the Indonesian Science and Technology Convention (KTSI), alongside the University of Indonesia (UI), the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). STP ITS itself is the only one in Indonesia that possesses a circuit facility to support automotive-related research.

To date, the government is striving to realize the National Technology Transfer Office (NTTO), which will strictly oversee the downstreaming and commercialization of research and innovation outcomes. Consequently, research outcomes within universities will not remain merely as written publications.

On this occasion, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas RI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rachmat Pambudy, M.S., symbolically marked the commencement of the integrated STP operations at ITS. He emphasized that the integration of the STP within the ITS environment serves as an initial capital for the advancement of research downstreaming at ITS. “The time has come for us to build an economy based on knowledge and technology, and the operationalization of this STP can be interpreted as capital investment for the development of new startups in public universities,” he stated.

Rachmat fully supports the research products of ITS researchers and students. Together with the Rector of ITS, the Minister of PPN and his staff conducted a direct inspection of the STP ITS area. This inspection included the future laboratory development area. Through this official launch, ITS commits to becoming a primary orchestrator in the knowledge-based economic ecosystem.

Meanwhile, the Rector of ITS, Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, S.T., M.Sc. Eng., Ph.D., conveyed that ITS strives to become an active element in this process. The 10-hectare area being developed is designed as a bridge between research outcomes and the real needs of the industrial sector. “This includes concretely strengthening and building STP capacity, both in terms of infrastructure and the development of human resources themselves,” stated Bambang.

STP ITS currently manages four main clusters that serve as the primary foundation for innovation: the Maritime cluster, the Automotive cluster, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)/Robotics cluster, and the Creative Industry cluster. Through these existing clusters, STP becomes an important part of developing innovative products at ITS to meet the needs of appropriate technology.

The Professor of Mechanical Engineering at ITS also revealed that this launch activity can serve as a beginning to initiate the process of self-reliance through a knowledge and technology-based economy. “Such as the emergence of various medical devices, the RAISA robot, electric vehicle products, our autonomous ship called i-Boat, and various creative products to assist MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises),” he explained.

Furthermore, Bambang explained that the massive development of the STP is supported by the Higher Education for Technology and Innovation (HETI) program funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). “The state has facilitated the development of the STP since 2022, including through the HETI-ADB program with an allocated fund reaching Rp 650 billion,” revealed Bambang.

Notably, on this occasion, the Rector of ITS also outlined future strategic plans, aligned with the current government’s priority programs. ITS is currently planning the construction of the ITS Educational Hospital (RSP), named Dr. Angka Nitisastro Hospital, and the ITS Semiconductor Center. “The advantage of this ITS hospital is the support from the ITS Medical Technology study program, thus integrating the health sector with more advanced technology,” explained the highest-ranking official of ITS.

The integration of the STP at ITS also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 4 on Quality Education and point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. (Public Relation of ITS)
