A study excursion organized by the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (DTSI ITS), was officially held as part of a contextual learning program aimed at introducing participants to operational practices and management of manufacturing systems in the energy industry. This activity was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the application of industrial systems concepts, process efficiency, and strategic decision-making in a dynamic and sustainability-oriented industrial environment.
The study excursion took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with the purpose of visiting PT BUMA. On this occasion, members of the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, consisting of lecturers and laboratory assistants, received firsthand exposure to PT BUMA’s core business processes and the application of technology to support the company’s operations in the energy sector. Furthermore, participants learned how technology is utilized to improve the effectiveness, safety, and reliability of production processes in mining and energy activities.
Furthermore, this study excursion provided insight into PT BUMA’s vision for sustainable production and consumption processes, as well as how the company implements these principles in its day-to-day operations. This understanding emphasizes the importance of integrating technology, processes, and a sustainable vision in building a responsible and competitive industrial system. Therefore, this activity serves as a strategic tool for bridging academic learning with real-world industrial practices, while also supporting human resource development in the manufacturing system sector.
