A study excursion organized by the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (DTSI ITS), was officially held as an applied learning activity aimed at broadening participants’ knowledge regarding the implementation of sustainable manufacturing systems in the steel industry. This activity was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the integration of business processes, company values, and sustainability strategies to support efficient and responsible industrial performance.
The study excursion took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with the purpose of visiting PT Sanggar Sarana Baja. During this visit, members of the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, consisting of lecturers and laboratory assistants, received a comprehensive presentation on the company’s core business processes and how PT Sanggar Sarana Baja’s three pillars of commitment play a crucial role in driving more sustainable business processes. Furthermore, participants learned about the company’s vision for sustainable production and consumption processes, including the systematic efforts undertaken to minimize production residues.
Through this study excursion, participants also gained an understanding of the implementation of company values in daily operations as the foundation of a sustainable work culture. This activity not only provides a concrete illustration of environmentally friendly manufacturing practices but also raises awareness of the importance of innovation, commitment, and collaboration in building an adaptive and competitive industrial system. Therefore, this comparative study serves as a strategic learning tool in preparing human resources ready to sustainably face future industrial challenges.
