SURABAYA, TG ITS – The Department of Geophysical Engineering (DTG) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has successfully conducted the prestigious Adjunct Professor 2026 program, which took place from July 13 to 16, 2026. The program featured renowned global geophysics expert Prof. P. Martin Mai, Professor of Geophysics at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia.

The implementation of this Adjunct Professor program was comprehensively designed as a strategic initiative by ITS to accelerate academic quality and research capacity toward becoming a World Class University. In general, the program aims to:

  1. Enhance the quality of education and research at ITS through close collaboration with external experts;

  2. Expand partnership networks and enrich expertise in ITS’s strategic disciplines;

  3. Elevate academic reputation and broaden international networks, particularly through high-quality joint publications; and

  4. Increase the number of publications in reputable international journals.

Intensive Four-Day Agenda

During his four-day official visit to the ITS Sukolilo Campus, Prof. P. Martin Mai completed a dense and highly productive schedule with university leaders, faculty members, researchers, and students:

  • Monday, July 13, 2026: The program commenced with a warm Welcome Meeting with the Faculty Dean and ITS Vice Rector. The agenda continued with an intensive Research Coaching session for DTG ITS lecturers to refine the department’s research direction.

  • Tuesday, July 14, 2026: Prof. Martin Mai led an exclusive Academic & Research Coaching session for students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and alumni. This session served as an interactive platform to analyze research methodologies and scientific manuscript writing strategies.

  • Wednesday, July 15, 2026: Held at the ITS Rectorate Building, a Special Public Lecture titled “How to Write Successful International Funding Proposals” attracted enthusiastic attendance from lecturers and researchers across various departments at ITS, focusing on tactics to secure international research grants.

  • Thursday, July 16, 2026: The final day featured a Strategic Meeting with ITS Management to formulate long-term institutional cooperation frameworks. Additionally, a second Special Public Lecture titled “Geothermal Energy Perspectives & Exploration Strategies from Saudi Arabia & KAUST” was held at the Geophysical Engineering Building, discussing state-of-the-art geothermal exploration technologies and strategies.
