In recent years, there has been a global paradigm shift in higher education, emphasizing inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. In Indonesia, including at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, efforts have been made to create an accessible and supportive environment for people with disabilities (PWDs). Understanding the importance of these initiatives, ITS has implemented a range of facilities and services to foster inclusivity and ensure that education is accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical abilities.
ITS Surabaya has made significant strides in ensuring its infrastructure is accessible to PWDs. This includes ramps strategically placed around the campus, making it easier for students with mobility impairments to navigate the facilities. Classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and common areas are designed with more comprehensive pathways and spaces to accommodate wheelchair users comfortably. Moreover, restrooms and other essential amenities are equipped with facilities that cater to the specific needs of PWDs, promoting a sense of independence and dignity.
The commitment of ITS Surabaya to providing accessible facilities and support services for people with disabilities exemplifies its dedication to inclusivity and equal educational opportunities. By investing in accessible infrastructure, assistive technologies, and awareness programs, the university complies with legal requirements. It fosters a nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically and socially, regardless of their abilities.
