Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/strong> is advancing the strengthening of Indonesia\u2019s maritime sector by initiating the Indonesian Maritime Higher Education Forum (DIKTIMARIN). The forum\u2014agreed upon by 25 universities across Indonesia\u2014was held in a hybrid format on Tuesday (26\/11) at the National Ship Design and Engineering Centre (NaSDEC), ITS.<\/p>\n

ITS Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Pramujati, M.Sc.Eng., IPU stated that the establishment of the DIKTIMARIN Forum is a strategic step to unite various maritime-oriented higher education institutions in enhancing technology, research, and the utilization of Indonesia\u2019s marine resources. He emphasized the importance of this forum as a platform for curriculum harmonization, acceleration of innovation, and strengthening networks between universities, industries, and the government. \u201cThis is the era of collaboration. If we want to grow faster, we must move forward together,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Chair of the Formatur Committee, Ir. Tri Achmadi, Ph.D., explained that various institutions from the western to the eastern regions of Indonesia participated, including Institut Teknologi Bandung, Institut Teknologi Kalimantan, and Institut Teknologi Sumatera. Several maritime and shipping polytechnics, along with universities such as Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Hang Tuah, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Pattimura, and UPN Veteran, also contributed to the establishment of the DIKTIMARIN Forum.<\/p>\n

Tri elaborated that the DIKTIMARIN Forum was formed to bring together different higher education institutions to strengthen the quality of maritime education. This quality enhancement will later be realized through the development of maritime concepts across three educational pathways. \u201cThese include technology, vocational studies, and professional programs, which have long lacked curriculum alignment,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the forum is expected to strengthen the development of highly competent maritime human resources through cross-institutional collaboration. The lecturer from the Department of Marine Transportation Engineering at ITS also emphasized that such collaboration may take shape through student exchanges, research partnerships, shared educational facilities, and the development of joint programs to enhance the quality of maritime education both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

The event, which began at 17:00, opened with a meeting of the formatur committee to elect the prospective General Chair of the DIKTIMARIN Forum. As a newly established organization, solidifying internal structures also served as one of the primary steps initiated by Tri and the committee. \u201cThe chairperson was elected by acclamation based on the results of deliberation among the committee,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Following the committee meeting, the agenda proceeded to the signing of the official report and the inauguration of the prospective general chair as well as the DIKTIMARIN Forum itself. Based on the deliberations, Prof. Ir. Eko Budi Djatmiko, M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Department of Ocean Engineering at ITS, was appointed as the first General Chair of the DIKTIMARIN Forum. This appointment marks the beginning of collaborative efforts in maritime higher education in Indonesia through research, curriculum harmonization, and the development of globally competitive maritime human resources.<\/p>\n

As the newly appointed general chair, Prof. Ir. Eko Budi Djatmiko, M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed that this mandate carries a significant responsibility to advance maritime higher education in Indonesia. He emphasized the need for collaboration to produce realistic and impactful programs for the national maritime sector. By leveraging existing facilities, resources, and international networks, Eko is optimistic that the forum can extend its influence to regional and global levels. \u201cI hope this forum will create massive and meaningful impacts for the nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Concluding the event, Admiral (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Marsetio, as Advisor to the DIKTIMARIN Forum, conveyed his appreciation for the establishment of the forum initiated by ITS and supported by various universities across Indonesia. He underscored the importance of collaboration to ensure that efforts to strengthen maritime education progress in alignment and yield tangible outcomes. Prof. Marsetio also highlighted the need for a collective platform capable of driving advancements in the national maritime sector. He hopes that DIKTIMARIN will serve as a bridge for synergy between academic institutions and the government. \u201cLet us unite our efforts for the advancement of Indonesia\u2019s maritime sector,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n
