[Surabaya, September 28, 2026] – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) participated in the 2026 Regional Java Sharia Economic Festival (FESyar), held from September 25–27, 2026, at the Grand City Convention & Exhibition, Surabaya. Through the ITS Halal Study Center (PSH ITS), ITS provided various halal assistance services, public education programmes, and introduced technological innovations developed through research by ITS academics to support the strengthening of Indonesia’s halal ecosystem.

The Regional Java FESyar is one of the strategic initiatives for developing the Islamic economy and finance ecosystem, bringing together various stakeholders, including government institutions, Islamic financial institutions, halal industries, universities, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and the wider community. The event serves as a platform for collaboration to enhance Islamic economic literacy, expand public access to halal services, and promote sustainable growth of the halal industry.

During the event, the ITS Halal Study Center (PSH ITS) booth served as an educational and service hub for visitors seeking information about halal certification and halal human resource development. One of the services provided was registration for Halal Supervisor Training through the ITS Halal Product Process Assistance Institution (LP3H ITS). Through this service, visitors received information about opportunities to participate in free Halal Supervisor training as part of efforts to increase the number of competent halal professionals in Indonesia.

In addition, PSH ITS provided free halal certification consultation services for MSMEs. The service aimed to help business owners understand the halal certification process, including document preparation, compliance with the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) requirements, halal certification submission, and assistance in fulfilling halal requirements for their products.

Through these consultations, MSMEs gained a better understanding of the importance of halal certification as part of efforts to improve product quality, build consumer confidence, and strengthen business competitiveness in a market that increasingly considers halal standards and food safety.

“ITS’s participation in the 2026 Regional Java FESyar is one of our commitments to supporting the development of the halal ecosystem through education, research, and community service. Beyond producing technological innovations, ITS also actively assists communities and business owners in meeting the needs of the halal industry,” said a representative of the ITS Halal Study Center.

In addition to halal assistance services, the ITS Halal Study Center introduced one of the technological innovations developed through research by ITS academics: a paper-strip-based lard detection product. This innovation was developed by lecturers from the ITS Department of Engineering Physics as an effort to provide a practical, rapid, and user-friendly technology for preliminary halal detection.

The paper-strip detection technology is designed to support the initial identification of potential lard components in food ingredients. With its simple and practical design, the technology has the potential to support the needs of consumers, food businesses, and other stakeholders seeking to strengthen monitoring of halal status in food products.

The development of this technology demonstrates cross-disciplinary collaboration at ITS, particularly between engineering and halal studies. Through such innovations, ITS continues to promote the commercialisation and downstreaming of research so that academic research can generate tangible benefits for society while contributing to the strengthening of Indonesia’s halal industry.

ITS’s participation in the 2026 Regional Java FESyar represents a concrete step in strengthening the role of higher education institutions as an integral part of the halal ecosystem. Through collaboration among academia, government, industry, and society, ITS remains committed to developing science- and technology-based solutions that support the growth of the Islamic economy and Indonesia’s halal industry.

Through halal assistance programmes, human resource capacity building, and the development of halal-related technological innovations, ITS aims to make a sustainable contribution towards building a more inclusive, innovative, and globally competitive halal ecosystem.
