UBT Strengthens Halal Institutional Capacity through Sharing Session with ITS Halal Study Center

[Tarakan, May 7, 2026] — Universitas Borneo Tarakan, through the Science and Technology Park Unit, organized a webinar entitled “Sharing Session: Building a Professional Halal Product Assistance and Training Institution from Scratch.” The event was held online via Zoom on Thursday, May 7, 2026, starting at 2:00 p.m. WITA until completion.

This activity was organized as an effort to enhance capacity and understanding in establishing professional halal product assistance and training institutions. Through this forum, participants gained insights into strategies, governance, and initial steps in developing institutions capable of sustainably supporting the halal product assurance ecosystem.

The webinar began with an opening session and welcoming remarks delivered by Dr. Heppi Iromo, S.Pi., M.Si, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs. The main session featured a presentation by Prof. Setiyo Gunawan, S.T., Ph.D., IPM, Head of the Halal Study Center, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The discussion session was moderated by Kaujan, S.E., M.M.

In his presentation, the speaker emphasized the importance of institutional readiness, human resources, governance systems, and collaborative networks in developing halal product assistance and training institutions. Strengthening institutional capacity is a key aspect in supporting the implementation of halal product assurance, particularly for business actors, educational institutions, and stakeholders involved in the halal ecosystem.

Through this activity, Universitas Borneo Tarakan hopes to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in supporting the development of the halal ecosystem, both through human resource capacity building, assistance for business actors, and the development of training programs that are relevant to the needs of society and industry.

This webinar also served as a platform for inter-institutional collaboration and experience sharing in building halal product assistance and training institutions that are credible, professional, and sustainability-oriented
