[Surabaya, July 7, 2026] — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) actively participated as a speaker in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) “Stakeholder Synergy in Establishing a Zero Waste Circular Economy Ecosystem for Halal Slaughterhouses (RPH) and UMKM in East Java.” The event was held at the Aula Gedung Keuangan Negara (GKN) II, Jalan Dinoyo No.111, Surabaya, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 09:00 to 15:00 WIB, and involved academics, government representatives, halal industry players, and processed food UMKM.
The FGD aimed to accelerate the development of a sustainable halal industry ecosystem, focusing on the transformation of Halal Slaughterhouses (RPH) toward a Zero Waste Circular Economy. The discussion covered:
ITS was represented by Prof. Iwan Vanany, Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Systems, ITS, who presented on “Building a Zero Waste Circular Economy Ecosystem in RPH through Halal UMKM Partnerships: From Waste to Added Value.” His presentation highlighted practices for utilizing RPH waste, such as blood, bones, skins, and non-food organs, converting them into high-value products including compost, biogas, pet food ingredients, and creative crafts, thereby increasing the income of UMKM and RPH while promoting environmental sustainability.

FGD participants consisted of government/private RPH managers, food and non-food UMKM operators, UMKM associations, relevant government offices, and academics, ensuring in-depth and representative discussions for the halal ecosystem in East Java.
