ITS Campus, ITS News — In today’s era of globalization, students’ enthusiasm for learning is greatly influenced by technology, particularly the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In response, the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) held a three-day training program for 1,000 AI Ambassadors for elementary and middle school students in Surabaya, which lasted until Sunday (October 26).
Prof. Dr. I Ketut Eddy Purnama, ST, MT, Head of the 2025 1,000 AI Ambassadors Training Program, explained that a problem among elementary and secondary school students is their lack of understanding of the ethics of AI use. Some students use AI only to manipulate answers without providing correction as a learning experience. “This issue prompted our team to manage a synergy grant from the government so that students can understand the risks of AI use,” he added.
The Chief Executive of the 2025 1,000 AI Ambassador Training, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Eddy Purnama ST MT, is presenting a report on the activities carried out.
Through this activity, Ketut and his team provided AI training to over 1,000 students and teachers to become AI Ambassadors. Specifically, the training was given to 300 elementary school students and 100 accompanying teachers, 300 middle school students and 100 accompanying teachers, and 300 high school students and 60 accompanying teachers. This collaborative student-teacher training is the first step in disseminating the wise use of AI to each represented school.
This training covers three key topics to introduce AI to students and their accompanying teachers. The three topics are titled “AI Is Around You , ” “Techable Machines with Google ,” and “AI Playground , ” respectively . The sequence of these topics is tailored to the process of understanding AI, from introduction to application of AI types, such as Chat GPT and Google Gemini.
Participants of the 1,000 AI Ambassadors Training are working on a quiz after receiving material entitled AI Is Around You.
Furthermore, after the training, a competition will be held among AI Ambassadors to prepare participants to share their experiences with their respective schools. This competition will be held at every school level, and prizes will be awarded to the ambassadors with the highest scores at the end.
Echoing Ketut, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FETIC) of ITS, Prof. Dr. Diana Purwitasari, S.Kom., M.Sc., explained that students must understand the importance of AI as a good learning assistant. The AI ambassador emphasized the importance of using tools from any AI website that students can use. “Although it’s not yet fully inclusive, AI must continue to be promoted little by little so that students can learn effectively and efficiently,” added the professor from the ITS Informatics Engineering Department .

Finally, Diana explained that this training also supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on Quality Education and point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. This way, education can be more accessible through the help of quality innovations from AI. “We hope that students who are aware of the ethics and use of AI can be more evenly distributed nationally,” she concluded.
