ITS Campus, ITS News — An Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) student has once again recorded a proud achievement in the national cultural and literacy arena. 2024 ITS Ambassador Tangguh Pratama Putra successfully won the title of 1st Winner of the 2026 West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province Language Ambassador at the Lombok Raya Hotel, last Wednesday (20/5). This prestigious victory was achieved due to his innovation in combining architectural science and literacy for mental health therapy.

The ITS Architecture Department student initiated the TuturRasa Jiwa program, a literacy module as bibliotherapy for stable schizophrenia patients. Tangguh explained that this innovation was inspired by his final project on neuroarchitecture, which maps the human nervous system’s response to architectural elements. “I see an opportunity to make literacy a supportive treatment alongside definitive medical treatment,” he explained.

This collaborative work by Tangguh with Laveda Luthfiah, Yuna Aulia, and Yazid Bustomi ingeniously adapts the medical approach of Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT). Using the domain to domain transfer method proposed by Plowright, the CRT stages are sequentially translated into focus, remember, feel, and express literacy modules. Interestingly, the innovation, which has been clinically tested in the Flamboyan and Melati Wards of the Mutiara Sukma Mental Hospital (RSJ), Mataram, has officially obtained Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) number 001229542.

The success of this student, who also comes from NTB, is inseparable from the public speaking training during his tenure as ITS Ambassador representing the students of the Hero Campus. This ability becomes his main weapon to socialize science and technology from a more humanistic and inclusive perspective. Although he was overwhelmed dividing his time between his final project and the quarantine, full support from his supervising lecturer spurred his enthusiasm to keep moving forward.

Preparing to advance to the national event in the coming September, Tangguh will measure the effectiveness of his module quantitatively using an electroencephalogram. This humanitarian innovation also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 3 regarding Good Health and Well-being. “Future success is not about how bright we shine, but how capable we are of sharing the light with our surroundings,” he concluded.
