Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology (DTI), Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FT-EIC), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), received a visit from the participants of CommTECH Camp Highlight 2026 Stream 1: Creative Design on Monday (27/07). This activity is part of the Community and Technological (CommTECH) Camp Highlight 2026 international program series organized by the ITS International Office as a platform for knowledge and cultural exchange, as well as global collaboration.
CommTECH Camp is an annual international program initiated by ITS since 2012, regularly attended by students, academics, and professionals from various countries. Carrying the theme “Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge”, the program aims to showcase the implementation of ITS’s technology and innovation in addressing real-world community challenges while expanding international cooperation networks.
In 2026, CommTECH Camp Highlight is divided into two streams: Stream 1: Creative Design (July 20–31, 2026) and Stream 2: Engineering Innovations (August 27–September 7, 2026). Unlike previous years, this year’s program utilizes a Project-based Learning (PbL) approach. Through this method, participants work in multinational groups to design tangible solutions to local problems, which are then presented at the end of the program.

As a core agenda in Stream 1, participants visited the ITS Information Technology Department to take a closer look at various digital technology innovations that support creativity, digital transformation, and sustainable development. The visit was warmly welcomed directly by the Head of the ITS Information Technology Department, Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi, M.Sc.
During the occasion, Dr. Hari Ginardi introduced the department’s profile, academic and research excellence, laboratory facilities, and cutting-edge research developed by DTI ITS. The discussion session was highly interactive, exploring opportunities for international academic collaboration, the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and multidisciplinary digital innovations.
The visit was also attended by three prominent academics from the Philippines participating in the camp:
Ma. Julie Anne C. Gajes from Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), serving as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Arts and Languages, College of Arts and Science.
Caesar Ziggy Quiday Perlas from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), serving as Associate Professor V at the College of Fine Arts and Design.
Viviene Aisha M. Gugol from Saint Louis College (SLC), serving as the Head of the College Information and Marketing Office.
A presentation of one of the flagship researches by DTI ITS students and lecturers regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones for an oil palm pollination system to the CommTECH participants.
Throughout the visit and research presentation sessions, participants showed great enthusiasm. They actively discussed the application of information technology in higher education, design thinking and user-centered design trends, digital media development, and opportunities for cross-border joint research.

Through the CommTECH Camp Highlight 2026, ITS continues to solidify its role as a world-class university. ITS not only focuses on producing technological innovations but also consistently serves as a collaborative hub for global academics, researchers, and professionals to jointly create solutions for global challenges.
