Surabaya, IT Journalistic — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again demonstrated its prowess in delivering technological innovations that create a tangible impact on society. Through a strategic collaboration with Hajj General Hospital (RS Haji) Surabaya and Universitas Airlangga (Unair), ITS contributed to the launch of the ITS-Unair Assistant Robot (RAISA). This smart, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based robot was officially unveiled on Wednesday (15/7) as a massive step by RS Haji Surabaya to bolster its digital healthcare transformation.
The launch of this innovation, encapsulated within the HAJI C-AIRRe ecosystem, was coupled with the signing of a cooperative agreement between RS Haji Surabaya and the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC) at ITS. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed directly by the Dean of FTEIC ITS, Prof. Dr. Diana Purwitasari, S.Kom., M.Sc., and the Director of RS Haji Surabaya, dr. Tauhid Islamy, Sp.OG., witnessed by the Vice Governor of East Java, Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B.Bus., M.Sc.
Prof. Diana Purwitasari stated that synergy between universities and hospitals is a crucial bridge to generating innovations that are both academically excellent and practically applicable in society. According to her, FTEIC ITS is committed to continuously driving the downstreaming of robotics, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and smart systems so they can be implemented directly in essential sectors like healthcare.
In alignment with this vision, the Director of RS Haji Surabaya, dr. Tauhid Islamy, Sp.OG., explained that the presence of this innovation is the hospital’s maneuver toward modern, efficient, and adaptive services. The introduction of RAISA is expected to accelerate information services for patients and visitors, reduce conventional operational burdens, and elevate the standard of comfort within the hospital environment.
AI Chatbot Innovation by ITS Students
RAISA was developed as an assistant robot that provides information interactively. One of its breakthrough features is the AI Chatbot. This feature is specifically designed to process and answer various questions regarding service flows, facilities, and general information about RS Haji Surabaya with swift and accurate responses.

The success of this robot is inseparable from the expertise of its main inventor, Dr. Ahmad Zaini, S.T., M.Sc., who involved a cross-departmental team of students as a concrete manifestation of research-based learning at ITS. The students who fully contributed to this project include:
Muhammad Navis Azka A. – Computer Engineering student, class of 2023
Yuke Briliant H. – Computer Engineering student, class of 2024
Hendra Manudinata – Information Technology student, class of 2025
Hendra Manudinata, who played a vital role in developing the robot’s communication system and integrating the AI technology, expressed his pride. “I feel very happy and proud to be able to take part in developing this robot as a result of the collaboration between RS Haji Surabaya, ITS, and Universitas Airlangga. I was involved in the development of the robot’s communication and AI integration, and Alhamdulillah, the entire process went smoothly,” he said.
Hendra added that embedding the AI Chatbot feature was a proud challenge, as it required the robot to interact naturally with humans. “The development of the AI Chatbot feature went well, and the results are exactly what we hoped for. We hope this technology can provide a better service experience for the community while supporting the digital transformation at RS Haji Surabaya,” Hendra concluded.
East Java Vice Governor, Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B.Bus., M.Sc., officially inaugurates and interacts directly with the ITS-Unair Assistant Robot (RAISA) during its launch event at RS Haji Surabaya.
Supporting the Achievement of SDGs
The success of this cross-sector collaboration stands as evidence of ITS’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encompassing:
SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): By utilizing smart technology to simplify and improve the quality of healthcare facility services.
SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): By downstreaming homegrown robotics and artificial intelligence research.
SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Through solid synergy between educational institutions (ITS and Unair), healthcare institutions (RS Haji), and the regional government.
Moving forward, ITS and RS Haji Surabaya are determined to continuously expand this collaboration toward realizing a comprehensive smart healthcare ecosystem in Indonesia.
