Surabaya, IT Journalistic — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to strengthen its role as a world-class university by hosting an Advanced Coding Workshop (Python for Artificial Intelligence) for students from the Dili Institute of Technology (DIT), Timor-Leste. Held from July 6 to 8, 2026, this event is part of ITS’s ongoing efforts to support digital talent development while forging stronger international academic collaborations.
The workshop, attended by 100 students and accompanying lecturers from DIT’s Computer Science Department, was designed to equip participants with Python programming skills focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science. Over the three-day training, participants engaged in a combination of theoretical learning and practical sessions covering data processing, machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI utilization, and the implementation of Large Language Models (LLM).
Students from the ITS Information Technology Student Association (HMIT) actively participate in presenting materials and sharing insights with Dili Institute of Technology (DIT) students.
Beyond grasping the concepts, participants gained direct experience through hands-on sessions in building AI-based chatbot applications. Using a project-based learning approach, they were guided to develop AI solutions from data preprocessing and model training to deploying applications designed to meet various user needs.
One of the workshop instructors, Gagatsatya Adiatmaja, S.T., M.Kom., a lecturer at the ITS Department of Information Technology, explained that the training aimed not only to introduce AI technology but also to cultivate a data-driven problem-solving mindset among the participants.
“Artificial Intelligence has now become a core competency required across various sectors. Through this workshop, we want to provide an applicable learning experience so that participants do not just understand the theory, but are also capable of developing real solutions using Python and modern AI technologies,” said Gagat.
Furthermore, Gagat hopes this collaboration will serve as the foundation for broader cooperation between ITS and the Dili Institute of Technology in the fields of education, research, and digital innovation development. He emphasized that knowledge exchange among universities in Southeast Asia is a strategic step toward creating human resources capable of competing in the era of digital transformation.
The organization of this workshop reflects ITS’s commitment to expanding its international network through knowledge transfer and human capacity building. By delivering materials relevant to the latest technological advancements, ITS continuously strives to produce adaptive, innovative digital talents ready to face global challenges.
Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This event supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely:
SDG 4 – Quality Education, by improving the quality of education and strengthening participants’ digital competencies.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting the mastery of AI technology and digital innovation.
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening international cooperation between ITS and the Dili Institute of Technology in education and technological development.
