Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held a guest lecture titled “Cloud Transformation in Real Industry: Architecture, Security, and Cost Optimization in Practice” on Friday (April 17) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium, Tower 2 Building ITS. This activity was part of the Cloud Computing Technology (TKA) course, bringing in an industry practitioner directly.
The guest lecture featured Andy Surya Pranata, S.Kom, General Manager of Technology at D~NET Surabaya. In his presentation, Andy explained that cloud computing is an internet-based computing service that allows companies to access technological resources flexibly without having to build their own infrastructure.
Andy also described several commonly used cloud models, such as public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid cloud. Each model has its own advantages in terms of scalability, security, and cost efficiency, making it important to choose according to organizational needs.

One of the main topics discussed was cost optimization strategies in cloud usage, such as shutting down unused services, utilizing auto-scaling, and conducting regular monitoring. In addition, security aspects were emphasized through the implementation of multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access control (RBAC), firewall usage, as well as routine data encryption and backups.
The lecture also provided insights into challenges in cloud adoption, such as security and privacy issues, the need for skilled professionals, and the risk of vendor lock-in. Nevertheless, cloud computing remains a primary solution in supporting digital transformation due to its flexibility and scalability.
The guest lecture atmosphere was interactive, with high enthusiasm from participants during discussions and Q&A sessions.
Students showed positive responses throughout the session. Revalina Erica, an Information Technology student, stated that the material was engaging and easy to understand. “Honestly, I thought it would be boring at first because the topic is quite heavy, but Mr. Andy delivered it in a relaxed way,” she said. A similar opinion was expressed by Ahsani Taqwiim Rakhman, who noted that the material was presented in a structured manner and provided a real picture of the industry.
Through this guest lecture, students not only gained theoretical understanding but also practical perspectives related to industry needs. This activity is expected to be held regularly to enhance students’ readiness in facing the professional world in the field of information technology.
