Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS – The Faculty of Intelligent and Computing Technologies (ELECTICS) of ITS once again secured an outstanding national achievement. The InnoVate Team from the Department of Information Systems earned 1st Place in the 2025 GEMASTIK (National Student Competition in Information and Communication Technology) User Experience Design Division. This accomplishment reinforces the commitment of ITS students to delivering innovative solutions with real societal impact.

The team consisting of Nadia Ayula Assyaputri, Muhammad Razan Parisya Putra, and Muhammad Ridho Utomo presented RawatKasih, a caregiver assistant application designed to support caregivers in elderly care homes. Guided by Retno Aulia Vinarti, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., the team impressed the judges with a solution that addressed not only technical needs but also the emotional aspects of elderly care.

“The inspiration for RawatKasih came from our concern about the daily lives of the elderly, our grandparents, relatives, or seniors we encounter in real life,” said Ayula, the team’s UX Researcher. Through in-depth research, they discovered that the greatest challenges faced by seniors in care homes are not only medical issues but also loneliness, limited communication with family, and the heavy workload borne by caregivers.

Razan, serving as the UI Designer, added that the idea also stemmed from personal concern after seeing many elderly people living alone while their families work or live far away. “From these experiences and findings, we realized how crucial the role of caregivers is in supporting the elderly,” he explained.
RawatKasih was designed to create a warmer and more transparent ecosystem where families can follow updates about their loved ones, caregivers receive support in their tasks, and seniors feel consistently cared for.

The road to victory was far from easy. Over the past three months, the team faced numerous challenges, from time management and repeated solution pivots to difficulties in conducting real-user testing. “We met almost every day to discuss solutions and overcome the obstacles,” recalled Razan.

Mario, responsible for presentation and video concepting, shared one of the most memorable moments, “We often worked late at night in the Department of Information Systems, even staying overnight in HMSI’s common room. The funniest moment was when everyone fought over who got to pay for the food, small things, but memorable.”

The team carried out five rounds of user and practitioner testing to ensure the application truly addressed real needs. “We didn’t aim for winning while working on it; we simply wanted to give our best,” Razan added. Their consistency and determination ultimately paid off.

Their advisor, Retno Aulia Vinarti, shared a message that deeply resonated with the team, “Always do good without needing a reason.” She also expressed how tense yet proud she felt while watching the team’s final presentation via livestream.

To students hoping to follow in their footsteps, the InnoVate Team shared a simple but meaningful message,
“Don’t be afraid to try. It’s better to try and fail than never try at all. VIVAT!”

Looking ahead, the team plans to further develop RawatKasih into a fully functional application that can truly support caregivers in elderly homes. A testament that the best innovations are born from empathy and perseverance.
