The 5th-grade students of Sekolah Kreatif SD Muhammadiyah 20 Surabaya posed for a photo with the Biology lecturers from ITS Surabaya.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a total of 62 fifth-grade students from Sekolah Kreatif SD Muhammadiyah 20 Surabaya, accompanied by 6 supervising teachers, took part in an outdoor learning activity. This program was part of a lesson series themed “Hygienic Food” within the human digestive system topic. The students showed great curiosity and interest, especially in the bacteria found in the food they consume daily. They wanted to see firsthand what bacteria look like. This curiosity became the main reason behind their visit to the Biology Department at ITS (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember). “Ustad, what do bacteria look like? I really want to see them,” said Zidan, a fifth-grade student from the Al Haytham class.
In their daily learning activities, Sekolah Kreatif SD Muhammadiyah 20 Surabaya consistently provides meaningful and hands-on experiences for students to help them gain clear and concrete understanding. The purpose of this outdoor activity aligns with that approach, aiming to enable students to clearly visualize the digestive organs and their functions, as well as the types of bacteria commonly found in the food they consume. The goal is for students to develop greater awareness and a sense of responsibility in choosing and selecting healthy food for their bodies in the future.
