ITS Campus, GLC News — To support the acceleration of students’ scientific publication efforts and enhance their readiness to prepare internationally standardized article drafts, the Global Language Center Unit (UPBG) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) organized the Writing Bootcamp 2026. Held in person at the UPBG ITS Building, the training was specifically designed to support postgraduate students, lecturers, and early-career researchers in navigating the publication process for internationally reputable journals.
The bootcamp consisted of four interactive workshop sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from September 22 to October 1. The opening session, Are You Playing Fair? Publish with Integrity, emphasized the importance of publication ethics and academic integrity. The training continued with Start Strong to Justify Your Research Impact, which helped participants strengthen the novelty and significance of their research.
Beyond strengthening participants’ research content, the program also provided strategies for publishing in reputable journals through the session Build a Winning Publication Strategy to Scopus-Indexed Journals. The series will conclude with Working with AI to Supercharge Your Workflow, which explores an ethical, AI-supported academic writing workflow.
The sessions were led by UPBG ITS English Instructor John D. Pierce and Meilisa S. A. Ariyanto, Coordinator of the Academic Writing Center (AWC) ITS, who directly guided participants throughout the training. In her presentation, Meilisa emphasized that understanding publication ethics and developing an effective publication strategy are essential for navigating the international journal publication process.
“Through this mentoring program, participants are equipped with technical academic writing skills as well as strategies for using AI responsibly without compromising academic integrity. They are also provided with practical tips for successfully navigating the initial and peer-review processes,” she explained.
The event reflects UPBG ITS’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. By strengthening the quality of higher education and developing academic writing skills, the program serves as a capacity-building initiative that provides sustainable learning opportunities for the ITS academic community. This initiative is expected to contribute to a stronger research culture and enhance the university’s international profile in scholarly publication.
