CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION INTENSIVE TRAINING

Work experience in accordance with the scientific field is very important for students as a provision to enter the workforce after graduation. Co-operative education is a program designed to provide professional employment opportunities for students during their studies. Co-operative education combines classroom learning and professional work in companies.

For 3 days from 26-28 November 2019, the Readi Project invited the heads of actuarial / mathematical study programs and lecturers from 10 universities to deepen their understanding of the implementation of the co-operative education program in which the ITS Actuarial was attended by Prof. Prof. Dr. Basuki Widodo, M.Sc and Mr. Dr. Soehardjoepri, M.Sc.

The instructors in this training are Scott Davis (READI Co-op Program Officer of the University of Waterloo) and Linda Davis (Career Advisor, Co-operative Education & the Center for Career Action, University of Waterloo).This training discusses the steps and strategies for implementing co-operative education programs in tertiary institutions. Representatives from Prasetiya Mulya University and Pelita Harapan University shared their experiences in developing a co-op program on their campus and shared testimonials from students who had taken part in the co-op program. They also introduced InPlace software that makes it easier for universities to collaborate with companies that are willing to accept co-op students to work within a certain period of time

Several other universities such as UGM, IPB and UNPAR also presented plans to adopt a co-op program in accordance with existing conditions on their respective campuses. The aim is to prepare students to become professionals who are ready to work after graduation.
