Interdisciplinary Research

Facilities for Interdisciplinary Research

ITS provides institutional structures and physical facilities that support interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Research activities are coordinated through the Directorate of Research and Community Service, which comprises 12 Study Centers that serve as platforms for interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers from different academic backgrounds. The Study Centers cover a broad range of research domains, including sustainable infrastructure and environment, disaster mitigation and climate change, marine science and earth studies, regional development and community empowerment, halal studies, appropriate technology, industrial development and public policy, advanced materials and nanotechnology, energy and mineral resources, defense technology, artificial intelligence and digital technology, and fundamental science.

Researchers are supported by laboratory facilities distributed across various departments, many of which operate according to international standards. These laboratories are managed using a resource-sharing approach, enabling researchers from different disciplines and research centers to access facilities efficiently and collaboratively.

ITS also has the Galeri Riset, Inovasi, dan Teknologi (GRIT), an exhibition gallery that showcases research and innovation outputs produced by ITS faculty members and students. GRIT displays flagship research products, including operational prototypes, scale models, and virtual reality prototypes, which demonstrate research outcomes that are ready to be further developed for technology transfer and downstream commercialization.
