ITS Campus, ITS News – The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again achieved impressive academic success on the international stage. While only four faculty members were selected last year, this year five ITS lecturers have been named to the World’s Top 2% Scientists list by Stanford University and the Elsevier Report 2025.
This prestigious list places selected researchers in the top two percent of scientists from millions of researchers worldwide. The five ITS lecturers who made it to the list are Prof. Ir. I Nyoman Pujawan, MEng, PhD, CSCP, from the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering; Prof. Drs. Ec. Ir. Riyanarto Sarno, MSc, PhD, and Prof. Tohari Ahmad, SKom. MIT, PhD, from the Department of Informatics Engineering; and Prof. Adi Setyo Purnomo, MSc, PhD, and Prof. Dra. Ratna Ediati, PhD, from the Department of Chemistry.
In this list, Prof. Drs. Ec. Ir. Riyanarto Sarno, MSc. PhD. from the Department of Informatics Engineering, ITS, again extended his record with 667 citations throughout 2024 in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing . Riyanarto himself managed to enter the list of World’s Top 2% Scientists Single-year Impact from 2020 to 2025, and in 2025 received prestigious recognition in the Career-long Impact category which assesses the consistency of research contributions throughout a career. Meanwhile, Prof. Ir. I Nyoman Pujawan, MEng. PhD. CSCP, recorded 308 citations in the same year through his contributions in the field of Operations Research .
Joining them, Prof. Tohari Ahmad SKom MIT PhD also re-entered the ranks of influential scientists with 290 citations throughout 2024. From the pure sciences group, two professors from the Department of Chemistry also made impressive achievements. Namely Prof. Adi Setyo Purnomo MSc PhD recorded 242 citations in the field of General Physics , while Prof. Dra. Ratna Ediati PhD, who recently entered the list, obtained 390 citations in the field of General Chemistry .

Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS Fadlilatul Taufany ST PhD expressed his appreciation for the achievements of five ITS researchers who were included in the list of World Top 2% Scientists 2025.
This achievement further affirms ITS’s role as a research university capable of competing globally. Global recognition of ITS academics’ contributions demonstrates that research results contribute not only academically but also within the international scientific community.
Responding to this achievement, ITS Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM), Fadlilatul Taufany, ST, PhD, expressed his appreciation for the lecturers’ achievements. He believes this international recognition demonstrates that ITS research is not only academically valuable but also has a real impact on the world. “This achievement is an important stepping stone for ITS to continue producing quality research and leading researchers,” said the lecturer from the ITS Chemical Engineering Department .
Taufany further stated that this achievement will motivate ITS to strengthen its culture of international research and publication. Collaboration with industry and global institutions will also continue to expand to enhance competitiveness. “This way, ITS can produce superior researchers who will make real contributions to the nation,” he concluded.
For the record, the World Top 2% Scientists is a global ranking conducted by Stanford University in conjunction with Elsevier Report based on standardized citation metrics. Data includes the number of publication citations, and the role of the sole, first, and last author.
With this achievement, ITS further solidifies its position as an innovative campus producing outstanding researchers. Going forward, this achievement is expected to inspire the ITS academic community to continue producing high-quality, impactful research. This also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , particularly point 4 on quality education. (ITS Public Relations)
