The sharing session with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) served as a discussion forum highlighting opportunities for academic collaboration as well as prospects for pursuing further studies in Germany. The event featured Walter Timo de Vries, who is also an Adjunct Professor at ITS and an academic from TUM, providing first-hand insights into the education system, research environment, and academic culture in Germany.
During the session, Prof. Walter Timo de Vries presented various potential collaborations between ITS and TUM, including joint research, student exchange programs, and double degree opportunities. He emphasized the importance of international collaboration in enhancing research quality and expanding global academic networks. In addition, he highlighted that TUM is highly open to interdisciplinary cooperation, particularly in engineering and civil infrastructure fields, which align with ITS’s academic focus.
The discussion also explored in depth the opportunities for pursuing higher education in Germany, including master’s and doctoral programs at TUM. Prof. Walter explained the general requirements, such as proficiency in English or German, academic readiness, and the importance of having a clear and relevant research proposal. Participants were also introduced to scholarship opportunities, such as DAAD, which can support funding for studying in Germany.
Furthermore, the session provided an overview of student life in Germany, covering aspects such as independent learning systems, competitive research environments, and diverse cultural experiences. This offered comprehensive insights for ITS students interested in continuing their studies abroad.
Through this activity, it is expected that ITS students and lecturers will be more motivated to take advantage of international opportunities, both in research collaboration and further studies. The discussion also marked an initial step in strengthening academic ties between ITS and TUM, while encouraging sustainable collaboration in the future.
