The FIREz program is being held again as a platform to equip students with 21st Century Skills while introducing Industrial Engineering knowledge through interactive and applicable learning.

On June 29-30, 2026, the FIREz activity was attended by students from various high schools, namely SMAN 5 Surabaya, SMAN 1 Malang, SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya, SMAN 9 Surabaya, SMAN 1 Tuban, SMA Taruna Nusantara (SMANTARNALA), SMAN 17 Surabaya, SMAN 20 Surabaya, SMA Al Falah Surabaya, SMA Al Falah Darmo Surabaya, SMAS Luqman Al Hakim Surabaya, SMA Al Bayyan, Vita Senior High School, Thursina IIBS, MATIQ Isy Karima, and SMAN 1 Toroh. Through a series of activities that combine theory, practice, and collaboration, participants are invited to understand how the Industrial Engineering approach can be used to solve various real problems in society.

The first day, Monday, June 29, 2026, began with an interactive session titled “21st Century Skills: How to Generate Fresh Ideas.” During the presentation, participants actively answered questions, engaged in discussions, and shared their perspectives on the importance of creativity and critical thinking skills in facing future challenges. Following the presentation, each group was given a case study to brainstorm. All participants demonstrated high enthusiasm by sharing creative ideas, engaging in active discussions, and collaborating to generate innovative solutions to the given problems.

The first day’s activities continued with a field visit to Surabaya Zoo. During this session, participants directly observed conditions in the field and interviewed visitors as part of the validation process for the solutions they had designed. This experience provided participants with the opportunity to understand the importance of data collection and identifying user needs before implementing a solution. Toward the end of the event, the atmosphere became even more lively with a Traditional Games session with international students. This activity not only served as a means of recreation but also strengthened cross-cultural interactions and honed participants’ communication and collaboration skills in diverse environments.

Entering the second day, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, participants attended an introductory session on 3D Printing technology that discussed basic concepts, working principles, and a demonstration of the object printing process using a 3D printer. The high level of curiosity among participants was evident in the numerous questions raised during the session. After gaining an understanding of the technology, each group returned to discuss with the assistance of a Liaison Officer (LO) to refine the solutions they had developed and prepare for their final presentation. The activity then concluded with an interactive presentation session on the results of the case study, followed by a discussion and question and answer session, the announcement of the winners (awarding), and the closing of the event in an atmosphere full of appreciation and a spirit of togetherness.

Through the implementation of FIREz 2026, participants not only gained insight into the basic concepts of Industrial Engineering, but also developed 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. The combination of classroom learning, field observations, technology utilization, and teamwork provided a comprehensive and meaningful learning experience. It is hoped that the FIREz program can continue to inspire the younger generation to get to know the world of Industrial Engineering better while preparing themselves to become future leaders who are innovative, adaptive, and able to provide solutions to various challenges in the future.
