A study excursion organized by the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (DTSI ITS), was officially held as a collaborative learning activity aimed at broadening academic horizons and strengthening understanding of the industrial engineering education system at universities. This activity was designed to exchange views and experiences related to learning management, practicums, and the relationship between the curriculum and industry needs.
The study excursion took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, with the purpose of visiting the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK). During this visit, members of the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, consisting of lecturers and laboratory assistants, received an overview of the learning process implemented at ITK, specifically in the Industrial Engineering Department. Furthermore, participants learned about the various practicums offered, the curriculum system implemented, and the learning approaches designed to equip students with relevant and applicable competencies.
Through this study excursion, participants gained a comprehensive overview of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology’s strategy in bridging the academic world with industry needs, including efforts to bring students closer to real-world practices and problems. This activity not only enriches institutional insights but also encourages stronger collaboration between universities to improve the quality of industrial engineering education. Therefore, this comparative study is a strategic step in developing a learning system that is adaptive, contextual, and aligned with future industry demands.
