ITS – The Geomatics Engineering Study Program of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), together with PSIDS-ITS and PIDS-ITB, organized a two-day Geospatial Workshop on May 19–20, 2026. The workshop highlighted various strategic topics related to the development of geospatial technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the implementation of digital twins to support sustainable development in Indonesia.

The event was officially opened with a welcoming speech by Eko Yuli Handoko. In his remarks, Prof. Eko stated that digital transformation in the geospatial field has become one of the key factors in supporting the development of research, education, and data-driven decision-making in the modern era. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and industry in addressing the challenges of rapidly evolving technology.

he next speech was delivered by a representative of Institut Teknologi Bandung PPID, who expressed appreciation for the collaborative event organized by ITS and ITB. According to the representative, synergy among universities is a strategic step toward enhancing human resource capacity and fostering innovation development in the national geospatial sector.

Also delivering a speech was Khomsin. In his remarks, Dr. Khomsin emphasized that the current development of AI technology and geospatial systems has opened vast opportunities for students, academics, and practitioners to create innovations that can be directly applied across various sectors, ranging from regional planning and disaster mitigation to smart city development.

On the first day, participants received introductory materials on GIS software and modern mapping technology from the SuperMap speaker team. During the session, participants were introduced to the use of geospatial AI technology to support map production, spatial analysis, and data integration in geographic information management in Indonesia. SuperMap also presented various case studies on the implementation of AI-based solutions to improve the efficiency of geospatial data processing.

In addition, speakers from Leica Geosystems delivered presentations on the latest surveying and mapping technologies, including the use of 3D data processing, high-precision measurement technology, and spatial data integration to support infrastructure development and spatial planning needs. This session attracted significant attention from participants as it showcased various geospatial technology innovations that have been implemented in international projects.

This event served as a collaborative platform for academics, practitioners, and industry representatives to strengthen the utilization of geospatial technology in the era of digital transformation. Through this workshop, participants are expected to enhance their understanding and skills related to the integration of AI and geospatial technology in order to support national development that is more effective, adaptive, and sustainable.

The workshop was conducted interactively through discussion sessions at the end of each presentation, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers regarding the challenges and opportunities in implementing geospatial technology across various development sectors.
