Structurally, the Electrical Engineering Department is under the Faculty of Electro and Intelligent Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The structure and name of this Department have been in effect since January 2017 based on Government Regulation No. 54 year 2015 and Rector's Decree No. 10 year 2016. The Electrical Engineering Department was established in 1960, coinciding with the inauguration of State Institution: Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya by Indonesia’s first President Ir. Soekarno. ITS initially had two departments, namely Civil and Mechanical Engineering; it later developed into five: Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, and Chemical Engineering. These Departments subsequently evolved into faculties. In brief, the history of the Department's journey can be summarized as follows: Period 1960-1961 Named Departemen Teknik Elektro (Electrical Engineering Department), led by a Department Head who served on the Institut Presidium, consisting of: ITS President : Dr. Angka Nitisastro Vice President of ITS : Prof. Ir. R. Soemardjo ITS Secretary : R. Soemani Period 1963-1965 The Department changed its name to Fakultas Teknik Elektro (Faculty of Electrical Engineering), with leadership as follows: Dean : Ir. Moerhadio Deputy Dean I : Ir. Arief Owen Deputy Dean II : Ir. Ong Sing Han Deputy Dean III : Ir. Joe Boen Kiat Period 1965 – 1983 Fakultas Teknik Elektro (Faculty of Electrical Engineering) continued to develop with various dynamics, including: Initially had two study programs: power systems and electronics Evolved into eleven study programs Subsequently changed again to five study programs Year 1983 This was a transitional period due to the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 58 year 1982 regarding structural changes in ITS faculties. Fakultas Teknik Elektro changed its name to Jurusan Teknik Elektro (Electrical Engineering Study Program) and came under the Faculty of Industrial Technology along with several other programs. Period 1984 – 1999 Jurusan Teknik Elektro continued to evolve with a composition of five fields, as follows: Power System Engineering Telecommunications Electronics Control Systems Engineering Computer Engineering In 1986, the Field Study on Computer Engineering became the Program Studi Teknik Komputer (Computer Engineering Program). This program marked the foundation for establishing the Faculty of Information Technology, which was subsequently inaugurated based on Rector’s Decree dated June 14, 2001. Meanwhile within Jurusan Teknik Elektro remained a field study in computer engineering emphasizing hardware-related competencies. Period 1999 – 2011 Jurusan Teknik Elektro continued to develop alongside scientific advancements with changes in the composition of the Computer Engineering field: Power System Engineering Multimedia Telecommunications Electronics Control Systems Engineering Computer and Informatics Technology Period 2012 – 2016 Jurusan Teknik Elektro continued to evolve with changing compositions, consisting of: Power System Engineering Multimedia Telecommunications Electronics Control Systems Engineering Multimedia and Networking Program Study BioMedical Engineering Program Study In 2012, the Field Study on Computer and Informatics Technology became the Teknik Multimedia dan Jaringan (Multimedia and Networking) program based on Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture’s Decree No. 382/E/O/2012. In 2013, based on an assignment from the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 221/E/DT/2013 dated March 20, 2013, Jurusan Teknik Elektro received a mandate to prepare for the BioMedical Engineering Program Study (Program Studi Teknik Biomedik). This program began operations in 2015 based on Ministerial Decree No. 102/M/Kep/2015 dated March 30, 2015 from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. The ITS BioMedical Engineering Program Study accepted new students for the academic year 2015/2016 through ITS admission selection via partnership-based and independent tracks (PKM). This program comprised ten lecturers whose composition included one professor (guru besar), two Doctors (Doktor), and seven Master’s degree holders. In January 2017, based on Government Regulation No. 54 year 2015 and Rector's Decree No. 10 year 2016, the D3 Electrical Engineering program became part of Departemen Teknik Elektro Otomasi (Department of Electro-Optical Automation) under the Vocational Studies Faculty. Period 2017 – Present The Department continues to evolve with changing compositions across expertise fields as follows: Power System Engineering Multimedia Telecommunications Electronics Control Systems Engineering For several decades, since Electrical Engineering existed as a faculty until it evolved into the Departemen Teknik Elektro (DTE) under the umbrella of Fakultas Teknologi Elektro (FTE), its main programs include: Bachelor’s Program in Engineering (S1) with four expertise fields Master of Engineering program (S2), established in 1993 Doctoral program (S3), initiated in 2005 Regarding credit hours, the undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree originally required 200 SKS, later reduced to 160 SKS, then further decreased to 152 SKS, and currently stands at 144 SKS. This has necessitated a fairly strict curriculum adaptation among the four existing expertise fields in the Department of Electrical Engineering.
