Department History
The Department of Electrical Engineering structurally falls under the Faculty of Electro and Intelligent Technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The structure and name of this department have been operational since January 2017 based on Government Regulation No. 54 of 2015 and University President's Decree No. 10 of 2016.
The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1960, concurrent with the inauguration of State Higher Education Institution: Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) located in Surabaya by Indonesia's first president Ir. Soekarno. ITS initially had two departments, namely Civil and Mechanical Engineering, which evolved into five: Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. These departments later transformed into faculties.
Briefly summarized as follows the history of the Department of Electrical Engineering:
Period 1960-1961
Named Department of Electrical Engineering, led by a Chairman who was part of the ITS Presidium consisting of:
ITS President : Dr. Angka Nitisastro
Vice President ITS : Prof. Ir. R. Soemardjo
Secretary General of ITS : R. Soemani
Period 1963-1965
The Department of Electrical Engineering changed its name to Fakultas Teknik Elektro (Faculty of Electrical Technology), led by:
Dean : Ir. Moerhadio
Assistant Dean I : Ir. Arief Owen
Assistant Dean II : Ir. Ong Sing Han
Assistant Dean III : Ir. Joe Boen Kiat
Period 1965 – 1983
Fakultas Teknik Elektro (Faculty of Electrical Technology) continued to develop with various dynamics such as:
Initially having two study programs: power systems and electronics
Developed into 11 study programs
Then changed again into five study programs
Year 1983
This period was a transition due to the issuance of President's Decree No. 58 Year 1982 concerning changes in ITS faculty structure. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering changed its name to Department of Electrical Technology and came under the Institute of Industrial Technology along with several other departments/jurusan.
Period 1984 – 1999
Jurusan Teknik Elektro (Department/Directorship) continued refining itself and developing into a composition consisting of five fields as follows:
Power Systems Engineering
Telecommunications
Electronics
Control Systems Technology
Computer Technology
In 1986, the Field of Study in Computer Technology changed to become an undergraduate study program. This Program Studi Teknik Komputer served as the precursor for founding the Faculty of Information Technology (FTI), which was subsequently inaugurated based on University President's Decision dated June 14, 2001. Meanwhile within Jurusan Teknik Elektro still exists a field focusing on computer-related competency regarding hardware equipment specifically termed Computer Engineering Field.
Period 1999 – 2011
Jurusan Teknik Elektro continued developing following scientific advancements with changes in the composition related to computational technology fields:
Power Systems Technology (Teknik Sistem Tenaga)
Multimedia Telecommunications
Electronics
Control System Engineering
Computer Technology and Informatics
Period 2012 – 2016
Jurusan Teknik Elektro continued refining itself developing with changed composition consisting of :
Power Systems Technology
Multimedia Telecommunications
Electonics
Control Systems Technology (Teknik Sistem Pengaturan)
Multimedia and Networking Undergraduate Program
Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program
In 2012, the Field Study in Computer Technology and Informatics changed to become an undergraduate study program titled Multimedia & Network Technologies based on Minister of Education and Culture Decision No. 382/E/O/2012 issued by Republic Indonesia Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs then later revised under Indonesian Law Decree #49 Year 2005 regarding higher education accreditation standards etc...
In year 2013, based upon assignment from General Directorate for Higher Education No. 221/E/D/T/2013 dated March 20th 2013 Jurusan Teknik Elektro received mandate to prepare Biomedical Technology Study Program which began operating in year 2015 pursuant President's Decision of Ministry Research, Technology and High Learning Affairs Number 102/M/Kep/2015 issued on march thirtieth two thousand fifteen. The ITS undergraduate program in biomedical technology has enrolled freshman students for academic year two thousands sixteen through selection process conducted via Partnership and Self Financing scheme designated as PKM (Pilihan Kombinasi Mitra). This department consists of ten faculty members composed structure comprised one full professor, two doctoral holders respectively seven master’s degree holders among teaching staff composition.
In January Year 2017 pursuant to Government Regulation No 54 Year 2015 and University President's Decree Number Ten Of Two Thousand Sixteen the Diploma Three Degree Electrical Technology Study Program became Department of Automation Engineering under Vocational Faculty.
Period 2017 – Present
The Department of Electrical Engineering continues developing following scientific advancements with change in composition comprising expertise areas listed below:
Power Systems Technology
Multimedia Telecommunications
Electronics
Control System Technologies
For many decades since when it was organized as faculty until transformed into the Department Of Electrical Technology (DTE) under Electrotechnology Faculty umbrella main programs implemented are bachelor program having four specializations plus Master's degree technology track started established in nineteen ninety-three while PhD studies commenced during year two thousand five.
