Lifelong Learning Measures

In Response to the Pandemic, ITS Implemented Online Learning through MOOC

 

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the digital transformation of the education world. But with the spirit of open-mindedness and innovation, ITS actively implemented online education through ITS Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). MOOC itself is a program to provide online lectures or any learning content, which focused on giving open access to the public and have unlimited participation, through Information and Communication Technology.

ITS Library Member Registration

 

ITS Library opens member registration for public, not only ITS students, lecturers and non-academic staffs, but also for non-academic people outside ITS. The library also provides online services for its members, where registration of library members can be done offline and online.

Open E-Course: Supply Chain Management

 

ITS collaborated with Class Central to open E-Course entitled Supply Chain Management. This course will equip participants with various concepts and methods that can be used to manage supply chains in four weeks. This collaboration shows ITS contribution to provide access to educational resources for those not studying at the university.

Guest Lecture Series

 

As a higher education institution, ITS Surabaya hosts events at university that are open to the general public: public lectures, community educational events. These events were mainly conducted with free access to the general public. One of the Guest Lecture Series (GLS) is GLS on SDGs, one of ITS’ e-Program where experts and academics from around the world can deliver a guest lecture in any fields of interest and can be related to any of the SDGs. The guest lecture is free and open for students all around the world.

Researcher and Research Student Enrichment Program

 

R2SEP is one of ITS’ free e-programs which is a research skills oriented program where ITS researchers and research students can learn from a series of guest lectures delivered by worldwide professors and experts. The program is a platform for students to exchange ideas, catch up with the world’s research trends in particular fields, and for overseas professors to share best practices.

P2P Virtual Public Lecture

 

The Education Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. USA, MRPTNI (Majelis Rektor Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Indonesia), and I-4 (Ikatan Ilmuwan Indonesia Internasional) USA and Canada present Virtual Public Lecture Series that was held every Saturday, starting from 26 September to 19 December 2020. The I-4 members who are experts in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, and Design will deliver lectures on General Topics on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) & STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), Research & Publication Skills, and Study & Research Opportunities in the USA and Canada.

National Seminar of the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum

 

As a higher education institution, ITS Surabaya hosts events at university that are open to the general public: executive education programmes and/or vocational training. These education programmes and/or vocational training was dedicated to teachers and public to improve the performances and competencies of human resources in Indonesia. ITS Vocational Faculty collaborated to this national seminar in the theme of The Collaboration of Vocational Education and Industry for Greater Indonesia Future in 2020.

ITS Developed Regional Potential Through Utilization of Processed Fish Waste

 

The pandemic era is not an obstacle for ITS to continue contributing in overcoming problems in society. This time, ITS is developing regional potential through the use of processed fish waste as a program of Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) and community service activities through ITS Center for Pusat Studi Pengembangan Potensi Daerah dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (PDPM) or Regional Potential Development and Community Empowerment. Where the community service was carried out by training and research on fish nugget processing.

ITS Community Service Team Conducted an Action Learning STEM Learning Method

 

The ongoing Covid-19 outbreak did not dampen the enthusiasm of ITS academic community to serve the community. This time, it is proven by ITS Community Service Team activities in the form of robotics learning programs for Elementary School (SD) in Jombang Regency. This activity was held because of ITS concern on disparity between education in urban and rural areas.

ITS Community Service Team Conducted a 3D Manufacturing Training to High School Students

 

The rapid development of technology requires every prospective worker to have basic knowledge of the latest manufacturing technology. To that end, ITS Community Service Team (Abmas) and Department of Mechanical Engineering provided a training in three-dimensional (3D) manufacturing in terms of modeling, scanning, and printing to 20 high school students. 1 Boyolangu, Tulungagung.

ITS Strategy to Face the Industrial Revolution 4.0

 

Lifelong Learning, provides a lifelong learning system that allows for more flexible academic and competency strengthening, not only for ITS students, but also for the general public so as to increase the competitiveness of national human resources. This strengthening is not only through academic programs by preparing a more flexible education system, but also through training and internship activities in an effort to strengthen skills and competencies.

ITS is aware of the importance of lifelong learning, as it becomes a main issue within the autonomous public universities in Indonesia. ITS provides a lifelong learning system to strengthen a more flexible academic atmosphere and to build competence that enhance performance not only for ITS students, but also for the general public, so that it can increase the competitiveness of national human resources. This strengthening is done not only through academic programs by preparing a more flexible education system, but also in training and apprenticeship activities. Policies related to lifelong learning are written on Regulation of Academic Senate No. 6 of 2017 concerning Policy Direction of ITS Students Development, specifically on page 8 (5.9. Field of Lifelong Learning Development).

Concern of ITS to Support Lifelong Learning and Accessible to All, Regardless of Ethnicity, Religion, Disability, Immigration status or Gender

 

ITS is aware of the importance of lifelong learning, as it becomes a main issue within the autonomous public universities in Indonesia. ITS provides a lifelong learning system to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, immigration status or gender through a public lectures, community service trainings and scholarship offering.
