Surabaya – The Center for Marine-Earth Science and Technology Research (STKK) at ITS recorded four prototype products in its 2026 performance report. The prototypes cover renewable energy, marine environment, and geospatial technology, showing the center’s reach from the sea surface to urban mapping.
Four Prototypes from Three Research Fields
Prof. Ir. I Ketut Aria Pria Utama developed Solar2Wave, a floating solar power plant (PLTS). Dr. Hasanudin developed a Trash Skimmer Vessel. Prof. Mokhamad Nur Cahyadi contributed two geospatial prototypes: the Motorcycle LiDAR for Regional Asset Monitoring and the Mobile Mapping LiDAR-GNSS System.

Mapping Technology for Regional Revenue
The two LiDAR prototypes build on years of research at ITS, including a low-cost Backpack LiDAR and low-cost GNSS. They combine 3D LiDAR, GNSS, and IMU sensors to map assets such as billboards, buildings, and water utility pipelines. One prototype is funded by the 2026 Priority Research Commercialization Program and aims to help cities measure advertising assets accurately to improve local revenue (PAD).

Toward Commercialization
STKK has long worked with partners to bring research to users. In 2024, the center collaborated with PDAM Surya Sembada Surabaya on low-cost GPS products and with fishing communities in Lobuk Village, Sumenep, on low-cost GNSS. The four prototypes are expected to follow the same path, from the laboratory to real users.
