[Mataram, June 8, 2026] — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) participated as a key speaker in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Halal Ecosystem Acceleration and Zona KHAS (Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary Zone) organized by Bank Indonesia, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province. The event took place at the Multipurpose Hall of BI NTB Representative Office, Jalan Pejanggik 2, Mataram, with an online participation option via Zoom.
The FGD aimed to accelerate the halal industry ecosystem and strengthen Zona KHAS in NTB through synergy among all stakeholders, including government officials, academics, and halal culinary industry players.
In the presentation session, ITS was represented by Prof. Setiyo Gunawan, S.T., Ph.D., who shared the “Success Story and Sustainability Strategy of Zona KHAS at ITS Central Cafeteria.” The session highlighted best practices in managing the cafeteria as a Zona KHAS, including halal, safe, healthy, and sustainable culinary principles, which can serve as a model for developing similar ecosystems in NTB.
Prof. Gunawan also emphasized the urgency for business actors to prepare for the Mandatory Halal Certification policy in October 2026. According to him, all food and beverage products circulating in Indonesia will be required to have halal certification, so business operators must ensure that their production systems and management of cafeterias or culinary businesses are ready to comply with the regulations. “Early preparedness will ensure products remain competitive, safe, and compliant with national halal standards,” said Prof. Gunawan.
Other speakers at the FGD included:
The FGD is expected to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and accelerate the growth of the halal industry and Zona KHAS in NTB, while providing best practices that can be adopted by local culinary entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
Through this activity, ITS demonstrates its commitment to supporting the development of the halal industry in Indonesia, building a halal culinary ecosystem that is safe, healthy, and sustainable, while also preparing the Zona KHAS model as a best-practice example for other regions in the country.
