Study of halal food products in the food and beverage industry
[Surabaya, January 28, 2026] – The Surabaya City Health Office held the 2026 Class I Hygiene and Sanitation Knowledge Capacity Building Training for Food Handlers and Managers on January 27–28, 2026, at the Gedung Wanita Candra Kencana in Surabaya. This activity is part of the Surabaya City Government’s commitment to improving the safety of ready-to-eat food and protecting public health.
This training was attended by food handlers and food business managers/persons in charge, with the aim of improving their understanding and skills related to hygiene and sanitation, controlling food risk factors, and compliance with food safety and halal regulations.
The Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina, S.KM., M.Kes., stated that this training is crucial to ensuring that the food produced and served to the public meets the principles of safety, health, hygiene, and halal certification.
“Food safety is not only related to cleanliness, but also encompasses aspects of health, sanitation, and halal certification. Through this training, we encourage food business operators to be more professional and responsible,” she said.

This training featured speakers from various competent institutions, including the Surabaya Ministry of Health Polytechnic of Health, the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, the Surabaya Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), the East Java Provincial Health Office, the East Java Provincial Culture and Tourism Office, and the Center for Halal Studies at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).
Through this activity, the Surabaya City Health Office hopes to increase the capacity of human resources in food management, support the implementation of hygiene and sanitation standards, and strengthen the synergy between food safety and the halal product industry in Surabaya
