SURABAYA – The Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again presented an inspirational podcast titled “From Me to the Library” on Thursday (Oct. 8). The podcast, which was broadcast live on the ITS Library’s YouTube channel, featured Nurhidayati, an ITS librarian, with Inka Novita Dinia, S.Si., as the host.
As she approaches retirement after nearly 38 years of service at ITS, Nurhidayati shared her career journey, experiences, and reflections on her time as part of the institution. She began her career in 1989 in the Academic Affairs Division (BAK) and later joined the ITS Library in 2006.
During the conversation, Nurhidayati reflected on the library’s transformation from a manual, DOS-based system to a modern library with more comprehensive and well-organized facilities. Her experience working in the Mathematics Reading Room from 2010 to 2020 was also a memorable part of her career journey, particularly through her interactions and close relationships with faculty and students.
Not only did Nurhidayati reflect on the past, but she also shared a message for the next generation of librarians. In her view, technological advancements must be balanced with a human touch, empathy, and compassion when serving users. She also highlighted the importance of support services, such as daycare, to help improve the well-being of employees with young children.
This podcast serves as a platform to recognize the journeys and contributions of librarians in supporting library services. To conclude the discussion, Nurhidayati expressed her gratitude for the support of her superiors, the camaraderie with her colleagues, and the many valuable experiences she has gained during her time serving at ITS.
Through the podcast “From Me to the Library,” the ITS Library hopes that the stories and experiences of librarians will inspire the next generation to continue their work, uphold humanistic values, and provide the best possible service to the academic community.
