Ethics & Policies Workshop: A Guide to Getting Published Equips ITS Students with an Understanding of Publication Ethics and Policies

Surabaya — The Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), in collaboration with Emerald Publishing, held a workshop titled Ethics & Policies: A Guide to Getting Published on Tuesday (September 15). The event was held in a hybrid format, with some participants attending in person at the ITS Library’s Creative Co-Working Space (CCWS) and others joining online via Zoom.

This workshop featured Sri Yayu Ninglasari, S.E., M.SEI., Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Management at ITS, and Irwan Sukardi, Business Manager at Emerald Publishing Indonesia, as guest speakers. The event was moderated by Sururin Maudhunah, a Product Trainer at iGroup Asia Pacific. Approximately 40 students attended the event to gain an understanding of ethics, policies, and various considerations involved in the process of publishing scientific works.

This workshop aims to equip students with a more comprehensive understanding of ethics in scientific publishing and the policies they need to understand before submitting articles to journals. Through this understanding, students are expected to produce high-quality scientific work that demonstrates integrity and meets academic publishing standards.

The event proceeded smoothly and was highly interactive. The discussion session was one of the highlights that generated enthusiasm among the participants, as evidenced by the six questions posed—four from in-person attendees and two from online participants. Participants who actively asked questions also received door prizes as a token of appreciation for their participation in the event.

In addition to providing participants with the opportunity to engage in direct discussion with the speakers, this event also served as a platform for the ITS Library and Emerald Publishing to strengthen their collaboration in supporting the information needs and academic capacity building of the ITS academic community. As a token of appreciation, the speakers and moderator received souvenirs from the ITS Library.

Through the workshop “Ethics & Policies: A Guide to Getting Published,” the ITS Library continues to strive to provide information literacy activities that are relevant to students’ academic needs, particularly in supporting the research and scientific publication process. This activity is expected to help students be better prepared to navigate the publication process while upholding academic ethics and integrity.
