SURABAYA — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Library is once again bringing a fresh sense of enthusiasm through the ITS Library Open House: “Your Home for Learning and Inspiration.” Taking place from August 31 to September 10, 2026, this event serves as an opportunity for the ITS Library to introduce its various facilities, services, and exciting activities to ITS freshmen.
During the first week, from August 31 to September 4, 2026, the ITS Library was livelier than usual. Not only new students, but also returning students and members of the general public joined in the fun at a diverse range of events, including live music, “Meet the Librarian,” a book fair, movie screenings, book talks, and database training sessions.
Opening Day Kicks Off with Live Music and a Book Fair
The ITS Library Open House series officially kicked off on August 31, 2026, with an Opening Day featuring three main activities: Live Music, Meet the Librarian, and a Book Fair.
The live music performance held in the ITS Library lobby was one of the highlights of the first day. Taking place right next to the Book Fair area, the music helped create a warm and festive atmosphere for the students who visited the library.
The moment was made even more special because, on the first day of the Open House, many new students visited to activate their library memberships. Their arrival was greeted by a musical performance that livened up the atmosphere in the lobby.
In addition to live music, students can also visit the Book Fair, organized through a collaboration between the ITS Library and Naraloka. The diverse selection of books on offer caught the students’ attention, particularly because the themes and titles were relevant to the needs and interests of the new students.
Meanwhile, the “Meet a Librarian” event held at the CCWS ITS Library was also met with great enthusiasm. Not only freshmen but also a number of returning students took advantage of this opportunity to discuss and learn about the various facilities and services available at the ITS Library.
Unlike the live music performances, which will only take place on Opening Day, the “Meet a Librarian” event and the Book Fair will continue through the end of the Open House on September 10, 2026.
Movie Time Brings Entertainment Amid Library Activities
Starting September 1, 2026, the series of events will continue with Movie Time, Meet the Librarian, and the Book Fair.
Movie Time takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WIB in the ITS Library lobby, featuring a screening of “Kang Mak from Pee Mak,” a 2024 Indonesian horror-comedy film adapted from the Thai film Pee Mak.
The film screening succeeded in creating a unique atmosphere in the library lobby. Several students who were passing by were drawn to the film that was playing and decided to stop for a moment, sit down, and enjoy the show.
On the other hand, the “Meet a Librarian” and “Book Fair” events continue to draw students. The event areas are constantly visited by students looking for information about the library or browsing the book collections on display.
Book Talk Features Two Authors Who Are Also Content Creators
On September 2, 2026, the Open House event was once again enlivened by the “Meet a Librarian” and “Book Fair” activities. Student enthusiasm for both events remained high, just as it had been in previous days.
Not only that, but the ITS Library, in collaboration with Naraloka, also hosted a Book Talk event that brought together two authors and content creators: Ade Rima Miranti and Coretan Lena.
The event, which was attended by approximately 50 participants, took place in an interactive format. Participants not only listened to the presentations by the speakers but also actively participated in discussions and interactions throughout the event.
The Book Talk event is one of the ways the ITS Library strives to provide a literacy experience that is more accessible and relevant to students. This event also demonstrates that the library is not just a place for reading and finding references, but also a space for meeting, discussing, and exchanging ideas.
Movie Time and the IEEE Xplore Training Are Taking Place Simultaneously
As of September 3, 2026, the lineup of activities will become even more diverse. On that day, students can participate in Meet the Librarian, the Book Fair, Movie Time, and the IEEE Xplore Training.
Movie Time has once again become one of the activities that has caught students’ attention. This time, the film being screened is “Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!”, a 2025 Indonesian comedy that serves as a sequel to the film Agak Laen.
Just like previous screenings, Movie Time once again caught the attention of students who happened to be passing by the library area. Quite a few of them stopped and joined in to watch the movie together.
At the same time, the ITS Library also held an IEEE Xplore training session. This event provided students with the opportunity to learn about and make use of one of the academic information resources that can support their learning and research needs.
The Book Fair and “Meet the Librarian” Event Remain Fan Favorites
On September 4, 2026, an Open House event was held, featuring a Book Fair and a Meet the Librarian session.
Although there were no entertainment events such as Movie Time, both activities were still well-attended by students. The Book Fair remains one of the main attractions because it offers a wide selection of interesting and relevant books, while “Meet the Librarian” provides an opportunity for students to interact directly with librarians and learn about library services.
The consistent enthusiasm day after day shows that a variety of activities can help the library feel more accessible to the academic community.
Now in Its Second Week, the ITS Library Open House Continues to Bring the Literacy Space to Life
The first week of the ITS Library Open House demonstrated how the library can serve not only as a space for learning, but also as a space for interaction, entertainment, expanding one’s horizons, and inspiration.
From new students coming to activate their membership, to returning students seeking information about services, to non-ITS visitors interested in participating in activities, everyone helped bring vibrancy to this year’s Open House series.
The diverse lineup of events—ranging from the ITS Literacy Club, Live Music, Meet the Librarian, Book Fair, Movie Time, Podcasts, Workshops, Book Talks, to Talk Shows—is designed to provide visitors with a more intimate and enjoyable experience.
The ITS Library Open House will continue through September 10, 2026, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WIB at the ITS Library. With a number of exciting events still on the schedule, students and visitors still have the opportunity to come, get to know the ITS Library better, and discover that a library can be more than just a place to store and read books.
