SURABAYA – The Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) remains committed to strengthening the capabilities of its librarians in supporting the academic and research environment on campus. On Tuesday (August 18, 2026), the ITS Library held a workshop on using the TemanRiset app, which took place in the E-Resources Room of the ITS Library.

This workshop was organized specifically for librarians who teach information literacy classes at the ITS Library. This initiative was undertaken to enhance the librarians’ knowledge and technical skills in utilizing cutting-edge technology to support Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based research activities.

Appearing as the sole guest speaker was Prof. Lalu Muhamad Jaelani, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., a full professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at ITS and the developer of the TemanRiset app.

To begin his presentation, Prof. Lalu took the participants on a journey through the history of technology supporting science, from the 4th century BCE (approx. 370–150 BCE) to the major breakthroughs of today’s artificial intelligence era. Following this historical overview of technology, Prof. Lalu launched and introduced the TemanRiset platform, which can be accessed at geo.its.ac.id/temanriset.

TemanRiset is designed as an AI-based research tool that operates semi-automatically while maintaining full user control (human-in-the-loop). The software is equipped with a variety of advanced features to streamline the workflow of academics, including:

After the presentation session, the librarians were invited to immediately try out the TemanRiset software. Participants interactively tried their hand at simulating the process of writing a research proposal and testing the quality review of scientific articles using the platform.

Through this workshop, librarians leading literacy classes are expected to gain an in-depth understanding of these AI-based tools. In this way, the knowledge and insights they gain can be passed on to ITS students and researchers, making the process of writing academic papers on campus more effective, structured, and of a high standard.
