Surabaya – The Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is once again presenting the Podpus podcast on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, via the ITS Library’s YouTube channel. With the theme “Explore the Library: Short Internship at the ITS Library. Delving into Experiences, Exploring Services, and Getting to Know the World of Librarianship from a Student’s Perspective,” this episode features two interns from SMAIT Al-Uswah Surabaya: Asmaul Afifah and Abdul Aziz Ihsany. The discussion was moderated by Asri Fatihatus Syafira, S.I.Pust., an ITS librarian.
In the podcast, Asma and Aziz shared stories about their first experiences as interns at the ITS Library. Both chose the ITS Library to gain new experiences and get to know the university environment—which has long been one of their academic goals—more closely. During their four-day internship, they had the opportunity to observe the librarians at work, explore the library facilities from the first through the fifth floors, and learn about the various services available.
In addition to observing, the students also participated directly in a number of activities, such as shelving—or organizing the book collection according to classification numbers—and creating social media content for the ITS Library. Through these activities, they realized that working in a library is not as simple as it seems. The process of cataloging the collection requires precision and an understanding of the classification system, while content creation demands creativity, brainstorming, and careful planning.
This internship experience also gave both of them a new perspective on the librarian profession. They realized that working in a library isn’t just about books and serving patrons, but also involves various behind-the-scenes activities, ranging from collection processing to information management. Both also said they were impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the diverse facilities at the ITS Library, such as the E-Resources room, the book collection on the 5th floor, and the Migas Corner.
Through this podcast, the ITS Library aims to introduce the world of librarianship from the perspective of the younger generation, while also demonstrating that the library is a space for learning and exploration that is open to people from all walks of life. It is hoped that Asma and Aziz’s experiences will inspire other students to get to know their university library better and not hesitate to use it as a place to gain knowledge, experiences, and new inspiration.
