Surabaya – To commemorate National Children’s Day, the Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) partnered with the DISKO 2.0 International Community Service Program to present a series of educational activities for children on Thursday (July 23, 2026). These activities were designed to foster an interest in reading and a culture of literacy while introducing the library as a welcoming, inspiring, and enjoyable learning space.
DISKO 2.0 International Community Service Program is an ITS international community service program focused on improving English literacy among elementary school children. The program is carried out at the Panggon Moco Library in Siwalan Village, Panceng Subdistrict, Gresik Regency, through various creative and interactive activities, such as storytelling, vocabulary games, peer tutoring, and the development of an English literacy corner. The program involves ITS faculty members, ITS students, international students, and overseas partners
The series of activities began with a storytelling contest organized by students from the DISKO 2.0 International Community Service Program (KKN). The participants’ performances were judged by a panel of three judges: Prof. Audrey Villot from IMT Atlantique, France; Dr. Kartika Nuswantara, an English lecturer at ITS and literacy advocate; and Eva Mursidah, S.I.Pust., representing the ITS Library.
After the competition, participants were invited to watch a movie together in a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. The event then continued with a library tour to introduce the various facilities, collections, and services offered by the ITS Library. Through this visit, participants were able to see firsthand how the library serves as a comfortable, open learning space that fosters a culture of literacy from an early age.
The DISKO 2.0 International Community Service Program was supervised by field advisor Herdayanto Sulistyo Putro, S.Si., M.Si., and involved eight International Community Service students: Ratna, Nabia, Newton, Primrose, Cephas, Reyfan, Tio, and Shevi. The collaboration between ITS students, international students, and the ITS Library is expected to provide a memorable learning experience while inspiring children to continue enjoying reading, learning, and having the courage to pursue their dreams.
