Learning doesn’t always have to take place in a classroom. On Friday, July 12, 2024, the ITS Library opened its doors wide to 28 students from CONVERSA Language Academy Elementary School so they could enjoy an unforgettable “Literacy Tour” experience.

This event was not just an ordinary visit, but part of the ITS Library Extension Services program. This program is tangible evidence of ITS’s commitment to fulfilling its social mission of community service, while also reaching out to those outside the ITS academic community. We believe that university libraries should be inclusive, open centers of literacy—places where anyone, including school-age children, can find inspiration.

The Fun of Exploring a Modern Library

During the visit, the students were taken on a tour to explore the library’s modern facilities, which were anything but stuffy. They got to see the collaborative Creative Co-Working Space (CCWS) firsthand, visit the Mini Museum filled with historical artifacts, and watch an inspiring short film about literacy in the Multimedia Room.

The most eagerly awaited moment was when the students were allowed to choose their own favorite books and read them at their leisure in the PLN Corner. This comfortable atmosphere proved to spark the students’ enthusiasm.

“The children were very happy, and many of them said they wanted to come back. This visit truly enriched their experience,” said Ms. Tya, the lead instructor at CONVERSA Language Academy.

A Commitment to Continued Service

Through this Extension Service, the ITS Library hopes to continue serving as an engaging bridge of knowledge for the broader community. We are not only a place to house collections, but also a space to foster a culture of literacy from an early age among the younger generation.
