In the context of science and technology (IPTEK) development, qualified human resources (HR) are needed to develop, master, and utilize science and technology. Developing quality HR cannot be separated from the rapid progress of Mathematics. Since 2004, the Master's Study Program in Mathematics has been trusted by DIKMENJUR to enhance the capabilities of vocational high school (SMK) teachers and vocational teacher trainers through this Master's in Mathematics program.
The Department of Mathematics under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) opened the Mathematics Master's Program (S-2) starting in the 2004/2005 academic year.
Supported by 19 academic staff with qualifications: 1 Professor, 4 Doctors, and 14 Masters. The available supporting facilities are as follows: Classrooms, 2 Laboratories, Mathematics Studio, Reading Room with more than 2,000 library materials, international scientific journals, national scientific journals, including Internet connection, Discussion Room, and other facilities.
Objectives
Education in the Master's Program in Mathematics aims to increase the level of mastery of science and capability in mathematics and its applications so that alumni of Master's in Mathematics ITS:
- Possess high integrity that is responsive to changes and advancements in science and technology.
- Possess the capability in Mathematics to pursue further education programs.
- Possess the capability to advance their profession and assist in solving problems within society through research and development.
- Are capable of contributing to solving problems that arise in the industrial field professionally.
Fields of Interest
The Mathematics Study Program offers 2 groups of fields of interest, namely:
- MODELING AND COMPUTATION, Capable of formulating engineering or industrial problems and natural phenomena into mathematical models and solving them analytically as well as numerically.
- APPLIED ANALYSIS, Capable of understanding problems that arise in the field of mathematics and developing them to be applied in mathematics or other scientific fields.
Academic Activities
The Mathematics Master's (S-2) Study Program is conducted over 4 semesters (2 years), with a maximum study period of 4 years. The minimum credit load is 40 credits (sks), including a thesis according to the curriculum. The academic calendar for Semester I begins in early September, while Semester II begins in early February and ends in June. Academic activities include: lectures, assignments and independent study, laboratory activities, literature review, and actively participating in discussions and seminars.
